         <description><![CDATA[<div>Kohlberg believed you moved from one state to another based on your opportunities to take others perspectives.<br><br>PRECONVENTIONAL REASONING: lowest level of moral reasoning. Good and bad interpreted in terms of reward and punishment <br>Stage 1- Heteronomous morality- moral thinking tied to punishment <br>Stage 2- Individualism, instrumental purpose and exchange -10 years and older; importance of pursuing their own interest but treat others the way you want to be treated <br><br>CONVENTIONAL REASONING- second level involving understanding certain standards that are set by others (such as parents)<br>Stage 3- Mutual interpersonal expectations, relationships, and interpersonal conformity- value trusts, caring and loyalty to others<br>Stage 4- Social systems morality- moral judgments made on social order, law, justice and duty <br>POSTCONVENTIONAL REASONING- highest level of moral development; recognize there are alternatives, develops personal moral code<br>Stage 5-Social contract or utility &amp; individual rights: values, rights and principles are above the law; evaluate validity of laws and social systems<br>Stage 6- Universal ethical principles: highest stage; development of moral standards based on universal human rights; using the conscience</div>]]></description>
