As the New London Group (1996) explained, any text being Designed is "linked" to "one or more series ('chains') of past texts" (p. 75)
Applying this, could be an important part of letting them read and watch what they like.

Term that refers to the cre- ation of new meanings and new genres through the Design process. According to Cope and Kalantzis (2000).
The writers blended elements from fantasy, science fiction, and "teen buddy" genres, in addition to borrowing generously from romance.
The writers link different stories if they'd like to.
It is important to write about what they know, so there's a link between the sequence they are managing and the characters.

Nowadays we are in a changing world, we need to change with it. Teachers as a mediator in their education needs to provide some elements which will be necessary for their process, but students also need to participate in their learning process as an activity of creating their own writing. Learning is much better when we enjoy what we do... some students will love to create pieces of language arts with their favorite cartoon.
