Zaleski, Andrew. “7 Businesses That Cloned Others and Made Millions.” CNBC, CNBC, 4 Oct. 2017, www.cnbc.com/2017/10/03/7-businesses-that-cloned-others-and-made-millions.html.

The article titled "7 businesses that cloned others and made millions" discusses how several successful businesses have achieved financial success by copying the ideas and strategies of other companies. The article presents case studies of seven businesses that have successfully implemented a "cloning" strategy, in which they replicate the business models of established companies in new markets or with slight variations.

The businesses highlighted in the article include Uber and its Chinese clone, Didi Chuxing; Airbnb and its Chinese clone, Tujia; and Groupon and its Chinese clone, Meituan. The article suggests that these companies have succeeded in part because they were able to adapt to local market conditions and address specific customer needs.

The article notes that while cloning is often seen as unethical or unoriginal, it can also be a valid strategy for business success, particularly in rapidly growing markets where there is demand for established products or services. The article also suggests that cloning can be a way for companies to reduce the risks associated with innovation and focus on operational efficiency rather than product development.

In conclusion, this article provides various examples and beneficial insights that would clearly benefit my final draft.

However, in truth, there are several cases of successful imitation. ‌The author argues that China has been successful in imitating and replicating American products, but has struggled to develop its own innovative products and technologies. The author attributes this to a lack of creativity and freedom in China's corporate culture, as well as a lack of government support for innovative initiatives.

However, even though this resource is not directly related to the ideas of smartphones and my research but it helps give insight into how imitative design is a bigger and larger scale concept that many are aware of, and there are many other examples of how this concept applies. Where the author argues that copying successful products or business models can help companies save time and money in R&D. and can also help them enter new markets more easily. However, at the same time, the author also emphasizes the importance of adding value to the innovation to create differentiation. To put it in another perspective if the design contains all same functions it will lead up to commoditization and price wars. Overall the article suggests that imitation can be useful, but it should be combined with innovation and new strategies to be used effectively in the out society.

This article is beneficial to my research on imitative design because it clearly highlights the importance and key points of how imitative design can be beneficial to companies. At the same time emphasizes the main point that companies will need to add new features or innovations which will result in a strategic edge over others.
