It comes from a perspective of advocating for multilingualism , where students bring their language skills in all forms that give them the power to express and share and tell stories. This can provide a context to respond to in the research paper aimed at asking the question of how multilingual can be celebrated and supported in the classroom; I still want to focus on that goal but there is hardly any research out on how technology is used for that, at least scholarship.

Overall, I think this synthesis helped our group members understand if we are all clear on the direction our research is going. All relevant articles provided insight as well as suggestions for how to promote technology in the classroom. They also all discussed the benefits of implementing technology and its effects on students learning/development. I was especially interested in the topic of how feasible this implementation is for urban classrooms and would love to look into that further as we engage in our research topic!

After reviewing my team’s research reviews and thoughts, I would say we are all mainly on the same page regarding what we believe satisfies the research question. Our articles seem to coincide with one another, depicting a common theme about technology and early childhood learning experiences. The common theme I have noticed is that technology drives student engagement, motivation, application to real-world, provides guidance and resources. Most of the articles have also provided a counter argument that allows for us to understand that there are pros and cons to having technology in the classroom. I think as we continue our research it is important to look at how the integration of technology will affect certain students and classrooms to develop different perspectives.

The journal discusses technology through the lens of generalized pedagogy, meaning it explores technology in a general educational lens . It also discusses how the technology facilitates learning about technology in and of itself. The journal incorporates evidence of using technology across a spectrum , and in doing so, probably explores the multiple types of technology and/or how their used, rather than the literal softwares, programs, etc that could be considered as educational technology. I think this will be beneficial because I could compare and contrast the use of technology in a general sense, without getting into the minuschia of what conssitutes educational technology which seems like a never-ending endeavor. It also provides an overview of technological implementation in “curriculum content areas”, which will help me to narrow in on a few subject areas and their relationship with technology. Lastly, some special focuses in the work are on play and its role in early childhood education and how technology enhances play experiences, which is of concern to early childhood education practitioners who have long championed play and how we can differentiate student learningwhile neutralizing gendered influences on their development that so often exist in early childhood learning. Some of my concerns, though, are in where the data was collected - its collected across various european countries so I'll need to understand why they chose these countries and also how technological use is viewed in those countries versus here in the U.S - are we as inviting towards using technology? Also, it was published in 2009, which is a long time ago in technology world

Sections and subsections include :

Status and Content of Technology

Methods of technology Education

Children’s Role in Using Technology

How it presents in several phases of the learning cycle

The importance of Play

Technology Education and Gender

How it offers opportunities for neutralizing activities acrosss gender and creating an opportunity for individual difference

Overall, our group did a great job this week in finding resources that related to our topic of integrating technology in the classroom. Something I noticed is that my article was the only one that really explored how technology in education differs in socioeconomic status and resources the school has. I found myself excited to read the cross-sectional research article posted by one of my group members... as it made room for really interesting discussion on types of classroom models and teachers attitudes towards technology in the classroom in a very digestible way. From across the articles this week I learned how technology is beneficial in both work and play settings- and can actually aid in further development for the child.

After reviewing our groups chosen articles for week two, I believe that we all found sources that support our research question. Last week, I feel as though some of our articles were kind of one dimensional, meaning I did not think they dove into multiple perspectives about the topic. This week, many of the chosen articles discussed multiple perspectives on technology in the classroom: different countries, different research compared, different approaches in different classrooms, etc. I think we have collectively come to a consensus that technology, if integrated correctly, can enhance the learning experience for students in early childhood education. So, I think it is important that as we continue our search for research, we start looking for more sources that provide more depth to support and strengthen our main idea. Overall, our team is off to a great start and we all show a mutual understanding for our topic.

I learned that technology can be a way of communication for not just parents and teachers but teachers and other teachers. I was able to understand why technology is beneficial in the classroom and why there such a push for it. I felt as though our research question was not only answered but the sub question I had were answered as well. I was able to see a smidge of the students’ perspective of technology incorporation; which is what I believe we could as a group shift the research towards.

Overall, we had some great sources shared this week. I really enjoyed taking in the information in a format other than research papers, and found myself feeling more engaged than any other week prior. All our group members focused on the importance of being intentional with integration of technology, in different contexts. We all discussed that technology should be used as more of an aid to curriculum, rather than dominate the classroom. We touched on how integrating technology can be an opportunity for collaboration amongst teachers. And of course, keeps students engaged and feel like active participants in their education. For our future research, I'd love to suggest we begin to hone in on a particular grade level and how technology looks for those particular students. How we integrate technology has so much to do with our students specific emotional/physical development that directly correlates with their grade level. Great work guys!

This week for our research we had to identify non-traditional resources that further provide information on our question. I thought this week was particularly interesting because we were able to find videos that showed students using technology and hear first accounts from teachers and administrators. I particularly liked how our videos were all very different. We had a mix of teacher/student demonstrations, TedTalks, and interviews discussing the integration of technology. One takeaway that I think is important for our research is that technology works in the classroom mainly if it is used intentionally. I’ve learned how important it is for students to have restricted apps and websites that can keep students on task and engaged with the material. I think this stood out more in the videos because it was shared from a teacher themself. There is no better source than from the ones who have to experience and teach using technology in their classroom. One thing I questioned this week during reviewing our research is whether or not statistics from different countries are applicable to the United States. There was a great video with a lot of great points about the integration of technology, but it was from the United Kingdom. I think it could provide a new perspective, but I wonder how much it actually relates to the integration of technology in schools in America today.

For our research this week, we were supposed to find non-traditional sources that advance our view that technology can be used to enhance early childhood education. I found this week of sources to be more interesting than others in the past as I felt almost all brought a different perspective. Juliet and I’s shared insight on how technology can help students who have diverse needs succeed through the intentional use of technology, Timasia’s source shed light on how technology could look once students advance to the older grades, and Zoe’s source touched on a teacher’s use of technology to aid their grading. Before this week, I felt that we were getting a bit one-dimensional and redundant. Now, these sources add another layer to our research by looking at technology in the classroom at all angles. In order for research and standpoints to hold any weight, they should be generalizable. I think having multiple perspectives and how they all intersect with one another shares that the positive impact of technology is real as we can see it in many different aspects. Through our four research analyses, it is clear that our overarching idea is that if implemented in an intentional way, technology can enhance the learning for all students.

I am sad to say this was our last round of finding sources. Through our in depth research, I began to find a passion for learning about technology integrated in classrooms and how that enhances the early childhood experience. I found that overall, our group has the same understanding that technology can be used in different forms for multiple subjects. All of us agree that it can be helpful- but must be used intentionally. Some of my members brought up several points where although beneficial, integration of technology in classrooms may not be feasible, especially in less affluent and/or urban settings. We were especially cautious of confirmation bias and how that may influence the sources we've continued to collect over the past few weeks. I am excited to collaborate with the rest of my group members as we decide the best way to present all our information in a concise and focused way. Great job everyone!

Overall, this weeks research showcased a lot of important perspectives. As a group, we introduced fresh voices in the discussion (i.e interviews with the students and how technology can help with teaching). Through these perspectives, we highlighted the importance of intentional teaching while using technology. We were able to dive a lot deeper this week and add new sub questions to the mix. Like in Juliet and Emily’s research, I started to ask how can technology level the playing field for all students to learn collectively; and in Zoe’s article, I began to wonder what other types of technology that is out there that can help teachers teach better.
