Seyle's take on stress

Seyle recognizes that certain experiences can cause correlating reactions. He also understands that on top of specific stressors lies a blanket of generalized responses. He identifies these general reactions as general adaptation syndrome (GAS). Seyle compares this persistent stress provoked syndrome to an alarm clock that ceases to quiet until its batteries are running on empty.

Three universal stages of coping

1.) Alarm stage - When the body must act on fight or flight, paired with bodily and mental arousal. The nervous system takes over.
2.) Resistance stage - When an individual survives severe, life-threatening stressors, and their body attempts to rejuvenate. During this stage the arousal is above average, but not as high as in the alarm stage. Prolonged arousal may lead to emotional outbreaks.
3.) Exhaustion stage - When the body can no longer keep up with stressors and conserves energy by calming itself. However, continued stress can drain bodily energy to the point of disease or other illness.

When I find out that someone is not who they say they are in terms of personality, morals, beliefs, and passions, I become angry and want nothing more than to fight them for playing me. When I see they won't change, I try to understand, come to terms with the way things are, move on and focus on myself; even though I try, I am still aggravated and sickened to watch them backtrack on what they offered my heart and I want to throw up. After letting it eat and eat at me I eventually say, "Screw it, if that is the type of person they are, then let them continue to live such an untruthful, unpure lie of a life and someone else can deal with it, because I surely cannot and refuse to do so."
