The source is "The Pelican Textiles Ltd. is the fourth factory producing producing textiles that i had the pleasure of opening in the past few months". This source tells me that there are more and more factories going into work as the Pelican Textiles is the fourth factory being opened.  As long as there is production going on, the citizens do not have to worry about shortage of supplies. And with more factories opening, that means that more people are required for helping to work, so more and more people can have job opportunities, causing them to have a stable income of income and can then provide for their family with stability.

Another source that tells me that life improved is "This factory will be producing household goods such as table-cloth, bedsheets, towels and blankets etc." This evidence tells me that the factories are producing people's household needs. When their needs are fulfilled there will be less shortage of any necessities. This means that living standards will improve. This source tells me that the singapore's politicians are standing up and helping to improve out country. As they want to be one independent country, one that do not need others to depend on. They are trying to learn to take care of themselves. This shows improvement because they are standing up for themselves instead of relying others to benefit.

Another source is that "The locals themselves, for example, started a chain of popular "People's kitchen" in 1946 that offered affordable but nutritious meals to the needy." This shows that the citizens are taking the first step, stepping outside their comfort zones just to make sure that everyone is satisfied and their needs are fulfilled. All these means improvements as they are showing unity, united as one. And only when they are united, they can fight for their independence, improve living standards together.

The evidence is that" Most homes did not have direct water supply, so children had to collect water from the village water pump." This tells me that the living conditions during that time was poor as everyone had to retrieve water from the same place and they do not have a direct water supply at home. If the water or bucket was dirty, people who drank that water might fall ill or spread unwanted diseases.

The evidence is that in the picture people were rushing to get supply of food as there was a food shortage.The picture also shows that most of the men were skinny. This tells me that they have not been eating enough because they either do not have food supply or not enough supply for them to fulfill their hunger, therefore causing them to look skinny.
