Every New Year Holiday, I always spend time with my cousins in Kediri, especially my lovely cousin named 🥰Citra. This year, we had a family BBQ, and Citra and I were asked to buy an extra ingredients. Of course, if we were the ones who's going to buy it, it would be full of drama because we were born to be EXTREMELY UNIQUE . We're going using an electric bikes with only one bar of battery left, even we know there would be a noisy motorcycle parade on New Year's Eve. Halfway home, the bike started to slow down, and eventually stopped because the battery is running out and also the pedal was broken. We panicked, but laughed as we realized we were being quite silly. We sat on the side of the road, feeling awkward as the noise bikes continued to pass by. The funny thing was, even though we had our cellphones, we didn't have any internet data, so we couldn't contact anyone. After a while, we tried to start the bike again, and i think at that time God is on our side because it suddenly worked. We went home relieved, still laughing, and were greeted by family laughter because of the silly incident before the turn of the year. This incident carved unforgettable memories, because only in Kediri and with my siblings, especially Citra, could I feel free and cheerful like this.

Marriage is a significant milestone, requiring commitment and readiness to begin a new chapter with a life partner. One tradition that beautifully embodies this preparation is the German ritual of Polterabend, where ceramic items are broken on the eve of a wedding. This practice is not merely a form of entertainment it symbolizes unity, cooperation, and readiness to face the challenges of married life together.

Firstly, Polterabend represents a couple's initial step toward collaborative problem solving. The act of breaking ceramics, performed by guests and the couple, serves as a metaphor for the obstacles that may arise in marriage. The cleaning of the shards together highlights the importance of teamwork, demonstrating the couple's willingness to support each other through difficulties. This cooperation is a vital foundation for their journey ahead.

Additionally, this tradition fosters a sense of togetherness and emphasizes social support. Polterabend is not limited to the couple; it involves family and friends, whose presence reinforces the idea that marriage is not a solitary journey. Instead, it is a union supported by a community willing to offer emotional strength and encouragement during challenging times. The participation of loved ones adds to the significance of this tradition, reflecting the collective readiness to support the couple.

Moreover, the ritual instills a sense of long term commitment. By starting their married life with a gesture of collaboration, couples build a strong foundation for the future. This nominalization of their readiness symbolized through the cleaning of broken ceramics marks the beginning of a shared journey, teaching them that every challenge faced together strengthens their bond.

In conclusion, Polterabend is a profound tradition that goes beyond mere celebration. Through symbolic acts of teamwork and support, it prepares couples for the realities of married life while fostering unity and commitment. As the couple clears away the shards of broken ceramics, they metaphorically pledge to face life's challenges together, making Polterabend a meaningful emblem of a new beginning.
