Ben Ratliff’s book was interesting for me. Over the course of reading the book throughout the semester it challenged me in some ways. The way Ratliff listens to music and when he talks about his examples challenged me to listen to music differently. When I would listen to a song outside his playlist, it’d be a challenge sometimes to a find a song close to his examples, because I try to listen to what Ratliff listens to in his examples. At times I would have difficulty reading some chapters trying to understand what exactly is he trying to state. In some of his examples, he would go and keep talking about, but as a reader it would eventually confuse me with what he’s trying to say. One of my favorites aspects about the book, is when he talks about a element and gives a clear description, to where I know what exactly am I looking for. Reading this book has changed the way I listen to music, not just looking for the deeper meaning in a song, but everything that goes with it such as the music itself.

Ratliff's last chapter talks about the perfect moment in a song. Ratliff uses Frank Sinatra as an example, because during the song he has moments where he's staying in a single note where it's only only instruments and his voice either building up or slowly fading away.
