“It is difficult for me to imagine what “personal liberty” is enjoyed by an unemployed hungry person. True freedom can only be where there is no exploitation and oppression of one person by another; where there is not unemployment, and where a person is not living in fear of losing his job, his home and his bread. Only in such a society personal and any other freedom can exist for real and not on paper.” J. V. STALIN

As I am reading the quote by STALIN, I am able to see that he arguing about the "personal liberty", and how the freedom can exist for real and not on paper. And I personally think the quote is too deep:)

Stalin shows the main idea of Communism. Nowadays, people are afraid to lose their jobs and "personal liberty". The exploitation and oppression of people is used now, and Stalin "predicted" future by saying it decades ago. The society without unemployment is an utopia, which was the Communists' idea. But to have such society you people have to be a little bit pressured. Stalin wanted to create a perfect society, but instead it became a nightmare.

I see some true things here. Person should not be rich in order to be free. Even some people in the prison have freedom and liberty in their minds, even though they are physically restricted.

I agree on the first part. I think he wants to say in the first part that we don't have the freedom to do something which impinges on someone else's freedom. Stalin has a point, even though he is known as a "bad guy" in the past.

"Personal liberty" is the value that everyone has a right to have. Everyone has to be living in their own liberty. For some it is job, for others it is finding passion in life, rest can be enough with having their family. It isn't always about the place in the world (being employed).

The quote emphasises the communist idea of Stalin. It is right that the people nowadays are afraid of loosing their jobs and are unemployed. The exploitation and oppression of one person by another, that Stalin was talking decades ago is present nowadays. The idea of a commune where everyone is equal and has its personal liberty is great. But in order to have that kind of society there still has to be pressure on the society. Communism is just an utopia that borders close with a distopia. From creating a dream it went into a nightmare.

This quote makes a lot of sense, even though I feel like "personal liberty" is personal for the reason that everyone decides what is liberty for themselves. But I would agree on the point where he said that people can feel free when they are not oppressed and not afraid to lose their jobs, knowing that they will have food tomorrow.

I agree on his idea. He saids that the true freedom or a joy can only be in an environment where people have job and income to live. However I think just job is not enough to get a true joy. If people are suffering from disease or lack of food, even though they have job, that is not a true freedom. People must have healthy life to be happy at first.
