The Military Reconstruction Act divided the Confederate States into 5 military districts. The law was that the states were required to grant African-American men the vote and to ratify the Fourteenth Amendment. The Radicals wanted to punish the South, and to prevent them from ruling the power. In this picture slaves are now allowed to vote since the 15th amendment was created. Now that the slaves are able to vote this can give them a little bit more freedom. Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12th, 1809 in Hodgenville, KY. He was the 16th president of the United States. He was married to Mary Todd Lincoln. He also had 5 children. He was assassinated on April 15th, 1865. He was killed by John Wilkes Booth. He was the president that wanted to end slavery in the United States. The reason for that is because the 13th, 14th, and the 15th amendments were created. Also slaves had a little bit more freedom than what they already had. Even though the South did not like the idea of Reconstruction they still had to obey the laws.
