First impression (Will)

The absolute first impression of Daisy Buchanan is when Nick comes to visit here on east egg.; after many years apart. The absolutely first thing she did when she saw Nick is that "she leaned slightly forward whit a conscientious expression--then she laughed, an absurd, charming little laugh." (p.8). That is exactly the impression we first get of Daisy; a genuinely positive and cheerfuller girl.
This impression breaks quickly in the dinner seen shortly after, were we get the first glance into the darkness behind this beautiful little fool.

What Daisy desires is a hard question that I think many people have different opinions on. As any human beading she wants to love and to be loved, but for here this is not very simple. I believe that Daisy have truly loved two men in her life, Tom and Gatsby. This of course is complicated, and she has a great internal conflict of want she really wants. In the end she decides to stay whit Tom, but I believe she would be happier and that she wants to leave and start over. But there is one more thing that she desires greatly, here lifestyle. A life of excitement, wealth and simplicity. Daisy is borne into great money and she only knows an easy way of living.

Daisy at first seems so blindly happy. However deeper into Nick's visit she seems to become more open and vulnerable to nick. Which shows starting from pg.7. Daisy is a very complex character that switches between feelings through the book. Daisy seems conflicted and full of fear when a situation arises. For example, when gatsby say that she need to tell Tom she never loved him; daisy response was why can’t we just have fun and run away together.

Daisy is a good person she does what she feels is right. However, she seems to be worried on what others think about her. Everyone during that time had seemed to be very money hungry. Rich would marry the rich. An example is when she married Tom because he had old money even though she wanted and truly loved Gatsby. When Gatsby comes back and Nick reunites them is when she really realizes it. In chapter 5, when Gatsby was throwing clothes at her she began to cry, but instead of telling Gatsby she's in love with him she states "It makes me sad because I've never seen such- such beautiful shirts before."

Daisy has never intentionally wanted to hurt anyone. I feel as though she has hurt Gatsby and in a way Tom. She hurt Gatsby by acting like she's in love with him, but she won't end anything with Tom. For example in Chapter 6, after Daisy leaves Nick and Gatsby alone Gatsby says "I feel far away from her." He says this because he wants to help Nick understand that he loves her and he wants her to leave Tom. However, Daisy wants to be with Tom because he has old money and she'd be breaking her morals if she were to divorce Tom, but she also wants to be with her true love Gatsby. I feel as though she hurt Tom by saying in Chapter 7 that she was leaving with Gatsby. The scene begins on page 133 where Gatsby says "Daisy's leaving you" and Tom replies with "Nonsense." And then Daisy says "I am though."

Daisy has herself a love triangle. She has this deep purity for gatsby; however, she has five lost year between them that she can’t seem to shake. As for her love for Tom is she is a loyal wife. Even though Tom is blatantly cheating on her with Myrtle, which is one of his mistress. She has this fear of Tom which makes her cling to him. Daisy expressed her feeling through what she shared with nick about her words she spoke when her child was born; her words were" I'm glad it's a girl. And i hope she'll be a fool- that's the best thing a girl can be in this world' a beautiful little fool." Daisy tends to run away from change or any big decisions.

Daisy definitely doesn’t know exactly what she wants; she almost seems to try and avoid marking discsions. Her flaw would definitely be her incapablity of being straight forward. She essentially leads Gatsby on by not completely telling him that she can’t see her self leaving Tom for gatsby. Daisy is a weak minded person who can’t stand up for her own good.
