Give each student a sheet of paper or a small whiteboard and marker. Ask them to draw an emoji that represents how they are feeling today. After they finish, have them take turns showing their emoji to the class and briefly explaining why they chose that particular expression. This activity encourages students to express their emotions and promotes empathy and understanding.

"All About Me Collage"

Give each student a sheet of construction paper and ask them to create a collage that represents who they are. They can cut out pictures from magazines, draw their own pictures, or use any other materials available to them. Encourage them to include things they enjoy, their favorite colors, hobbies, family, pets, or anything else that represents them. After completing their collages, have students take turns sharing their collages with the class, explaining the different elements and why they chose them. This activity allows students to express themselves creatively and gives others a visual representation of their interests and personalities.

*When the teacher arrives sit and put your notebook and pencil case on the desk and be prepared for the lesson ahead

 

Preparation:

a. Prior to the activity, create colorful signs for each classroom rule. Write one rule on each sign using markers or colored pencils.

b. Cut out the signs and decorate them as desired.

c. Tape or stick the signs around the classroom in various locations.

 

Introduction:

a. Gather the students together and explain that they will be embarking on a treasure hunt to discover the classroom rules.

b. Emphasize the importance of following rules to create a safe and enjoyable learning environment.

c. Briefly discuss the rules you have in the classroom and why they are essential.

 

Treasure Hunt:

a. Divide the class into small groups or pairs, depending on the size of your class.

b. Explain that each group will search for the classroom rule signs hidden around the room.

c. Assign a starting point for each group and instruct them to follow the signs to find the next one.

d. Encourage the students to work together and help one another during the treasure hunt.

e. Remind the students to read each sign aloud and discuss what it means as they find them.

 

Rule Discussion:

a. Once a group discovers a rule sign, gather all the students around it.

b. Ask the students to read the rule aloud and explain what it means in their own words.

c. Facilitate a brief discussion about the rule, asking questions such as:

Why do you think this rule is important?

How does following this rule help us in the classroom?

d. Allow the students to share their thoughts and experiences related to each rule.

Treasure Time:

a. Once all the groups have found and discussed each rule sign, gather everyone back together.

b. Congratulate the students on successfully completing the treasure hunt.

c. Reward the students with a small treat or prize as a symbol of their achievement.

1. Be assertive with your students – don’t allow them to talk back or be rude – they are ALWAYS checking you.

2. Try and find the balance between being a teacher who is nice, caring and available to standing your ground when it comes to discipline. 

3. Be respectful to your students as you expect them to be to you.

4. Be clear with your instructions and follow through with your rules – if you don’t – your rules are meaningless.

5. Always be prepared for your lessons. That includes having a “Plan B.”
