Mitch shows contrast to the characters of the other men as he seems to have an air of sophistication. Also he shows sensitivity and a very caring personality through the fact that he takes care of his mother. He is able to put others feelings and well-being before his own which is very contrasting to Stanley's personality and seemingly that of the others as well. It is suggested that Mitch is more of a gentleman and has greater maturity compared to the rest of the men.

The fact that Mitch still lives with his mother show that he is generally more sensitive than his other poker friends. Also in scene 1 his gentleman's behavior stands out which keeps coming back during the play. Compared to the other characters Mitch isn't as muscular as Stanley therefore he isn't seen as a typical Elysian field person because at that time man were very confident and euphoric.

Mitch is the least dominant one of the group. He feels less the need to be the "main man" while the others are way more macho. This is shown by the fact that Mitch doesn't really seem to like poker and while the other men try to interact with the girl as least as possible, Mitch starts a conversation with Blanche. Mitch also lives with his mother, which shows that he is more caring about his family and friends. Mitch comes over as less masculine and therefore more friendly towards the girls and everyone else in general. This makes him look contrasting because the men in Elysian Fields typically represent these other types of men.

Mitch is not the stereotypical man/lad like Stanley in a streetcar named desire. this is shows by the way he interacts with the other mean, for instance he is not as jokey and doesn't use as much rough language like Stanley does. also the way Mitch talks to Blanche is with more respect and kind compared to the other men shown in a streaatcar named desire.

Mitch is a very calm, reserved and sensitive man as compared to the rest. His character contrasts greatly to the other men. He is not the type of guy who would be a playboy, he was genuinely interested in Blanche. He speaks with respect towards Blanche and Stella, whereas the other men would talk to them in a harsher tone. Mitch is taken to be the true gentleman out of all of them, he doesn't swear like the others and is very quiet, emphasizing his heightened level of maturity over the other men. He is not a very typical man as well, not muscular and quite plump and too reserved in tone. He comes off as a "softy" when compared to the other men.

Mitch is always dressed neatly, he is respectful and kind, he also speaks in a more mannered way. This contrasts with the character of Stanley.
While Stanley may be taking off his shirt and goes around in his undershirt, Mitch only removes his coat because he thinks he'll sweat too much. He says that men shouldn't be playing cards around the women.
Mitch is attached to his mother, this shows that he is more sensitive than Stanley and his other poker friends, but may also be seen as some what inexperienced with women. Stanley on the other hand is the Alpha who leads the pack and diminishes everyone else that is like him. He demands the full attention from stella.
Mitch may be seen as the less dominant character in the group, but when Stanley hits Stella, the audience sees Mitch take control of the situation, this is shown through Mitch's order to "put him on the bed and get hum a wet towel".

Mitch has many characteristics that is opposing to the other male characters in the play. He is a representation of those who challenge society’s gender stereotype. Contrasting with the other male characters, Mitch often demonstrates many of the qualities that are related to feminity. This shown by his weak personality, which opposes to the forceful and dominating characteristic that most male character has. "I oughta go home...I gotta sick mother. She don't go to sleep until I come in at night.”this displays his caring nature.

In scene three during the poker game and Stanley's house Mitch shows to be less open and expressive about his feelings towards the men. He has a slightly more respectful behaviour than the other men which he shows by his flirtatious behaviour towards Blanche. He also doesn't seem to be as dominant as the other men as he doesn't claim a woman but kindly asks her questions. Mitch has maybe had a different past than the other men which coukd explain his understanding behaviour in contrast to the silly behaviour of the other men.
