However, how do these vowels contrast with those used in the previous stanza? https://padlet.com/carolinegaydon/axkc76axutql/wish/334762002 The continuous usage of vowel sounds in stanza 4 and 5 are called assonance. Stanza 4 describes the free bird. However, stanza 5 describes the caged bird. Since both these stanzas are opposite, the usage of assonance helps create tone and effective rhythm. “A” and “O” are used in these stanzas. These letters help slow down the line and make it sound slow and weary.
