1980s ✰ VHS and TV Cart

Wheelable TV carts became available in schools. They were used mostly to watch historical films or wildlife documentaries. They deeply enhanced the learning experience as teachers were able to shift verbal knowledge into visible demonstration.

1980s ✰ The Projector

Teachers were able to aid visual learners by projecting their teachings onto a larger wall for the class to see. These were typically used in classes demonstrating formulas, such as math and science, as well as foreign language classes. This significantly helped students wrap their minds around different subjects, and was also very interactive--students could come up to the projector and try the problems on their own for the class to see. It also made it much easier for students to take notes for further studying at home.

1980s ✰ The Typewriter

In the mid 80s, students were required to take typing classes using typewriters, as most schools did not offer computer use for students. Though computers were not yet available to most students, this would eventually become a very important skill to have, as computers eventually became extremely popular. They were quite fun to use, although all mistakes had to be fixed with whiteout instead of just pressing the 'backspace' button as we all do with typing now.

1980s ✰ Tape Recorder!

Since there wasn't so much technology available, many teachers in the 80s taught mostly through lectures. And, as students didn't have access to computers or laptops, they would have to write all their notes on paper. When a particular teacher was prone to talking too fast or lecturing too long, many students would bring a tape recorder so they could re-listen to and study the lecture at home.

Early 2000s ✰ Clicker Remotes

Around 2008, my sisters class would use these clicker remotes, also known as Student Response Systems. The clickers allowed students to answer questions on the board from their desks, usually for interactive learning or a pop quiz. According to my sister, they could be a bit scary because your answers weren't always anonymous, and the class could see who got it right or wrong. Yet, they still provided a new and interesting learning environment.

2012 ✰ Chromebooks Introduced!

Chromebooks are finally introduced to students! In most schools, each student is assigned to a Chromebook. This, of course, made learning much more exciting and fun for students who had never been able to use such technology (at least not in school) yet.
