         <title>Understanding ASCA Assessments</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong><em>Program Assessment</em></strong></p><p>      School counselors use program assessment to measure improvement, participation, and effectiveness. Program assessments are not designed to be used on a one-time basis but rather to be used as a continuation of care and progress. The ultimate goal of a school counselor is to design and deliver a comprehensive program that effectively assists students in achieving success. The data collected through these assessments can be used to create an evidence-based program. </p><p><br></p><p><strong><em>Annual Results Reports</em></strong></p><p>     Annual results reports show the data assessed and evaluated to determine the program's effectiveness. The results can be organized in graphs or visual displays to give stakeholders, supervisors, and other staff a clearer picture. Reports are not designed to look down on a department or counselor but to be used to grow on what can be done better for the future. Results reports can be used to show data from small groups, a single lesson plan, or a program as a whole.  </p><p><strong><em>School Counselor Assessment and Appraisal</em></strong></p><p><strong><em>      </em></strong>The school counselor assessment and appraisal is a multi-step assessment completed by the individual school counselor and their qualified administrator. This process involves self-assessments to evaluate how one feels they are doing in their professional role and the effectiveness of their services. The school counselors will also assess themselves based on ASCA competencies.  This is also where a qualified administrator who is overseeing the counselor will do a professional performance evaluation. This assessment and appraisal is what the counselor uses to ensure they are meeting performance indicators, taking feedback to make improvements, and expanding on one's abilities.  </p>]]></description>
