The first paragraph is an important part of the story through to the end. The following was used for foreshadowing,

"We owned it together until his boots filled with water on a windy night and he bought out my share" (Edrich 1). This quote explains the relationship of the two brothers and how their relationship ends one night down in the river. This was very direct foreshadowing to what was doing to eventually happen to Henry.

The two first saw the car and were examining it. They both had their thoughts about the car. "That car reposed, calm and gleaming, a FOR SALE sign in its left front window. (Erdrich 1). Reposed can be used for a funeral term. This was foreshadowing to Henry dying and the convertible being pushed by Lyman. In that quote readers can see the image of the whole house burning to the ground and the smoke surrounding the whole land around the house. This is very scary for him watching something horrific happen to his aunt. "I was so terrified and horror-stricken at the sight, that I hid myself in a closet, and dared not to venture out till long after the bloody transaction was over" (Douglass 6). This was very scary for Frederick and he was changed from this event. No one should ever have to watch something like that happen to their own aunt. Suspense, foreshadowing, imagery, and fear are the four elements I had in my project. Suspense was good for building up the stories to keep the reader interested. Foreshadowing had the reader thinking. Imagery gave readers an image in their head to almost put themselves into the story. Fear was great for showing how bad some times were in the war and how awful it did get. Imagery showed the war in a more vivid way.
