The individual work systems were defined as a visually organized space where children practice or perform work previously mastered under the direct supervision of an adult. The dependent variables were on/off task responding, teacher prompting and task completion. Lack of independence results in impediment to classroom and community inclusion. The research was conducted by teachers, instructional assistant and researchers. The goal of addressing independent functioning was defined by the teachers, assistants, district autism consultant and case coordinator. Research and interventions were conducted at the job site for one student in the transitional program and in the classroom for the other two students. They aimed to improve educations practices by promoting independence, teaching functional play, maintaining skills and using multiple interventions.
