I would choose him because he has background from both the military along with plants. I feel like these are both valuable skills to have in order for the journey to be successful. He has a military background because he joined the army in 1794 and eventually became a captain. It would be important to have military skills because it made him disciplined. This would help him stay focused on the tasks ahead. 

Another important part about him was that he was knowledgeable of plants. This is because his mother was an herbal doctor. I think this is an important skill because he would know which plants  to eat and which not to eat. Overall I feel like he had more valuable skills than William Clark.

I would choose Pierre Cruzatte because I think I would want someone who is able to make the journey fun and keep it interesting. I know that Pierre Cruzatte would do that because of journals from Lewis and Clart. In these journals it is said that he played the fiddle when times were bad. He kept the journey interesting because at one point he shot William Lewis. Besides making the journey enjoyable he had some useful abilities. 

One ability that I find valuable is that he could speak the Omaha language along with sign language. I think this would be valuable because he could help us have relations with other people on our journey. I would also choose him because he was a fur trader previously so I would expect him to make good trade deals. Overall, I think he would be a good asset for my journey.

Jean Baptiste Charbonneau  is the son of Sacagawea and that already makes him an asset. This is because when meeting with Indians they found Women and children to prove that a group was peaceful. This would help the travelers because Indians would be more trusting.
Another reason I would choose him because he would keep the journey interesting. Like said in the private post I think not being bored would be important. Jean Baptiste was given a nic-name of “dancing boy” so I feel he would be very entertaining.

Lewis described this plant as an evergreen who’s leaves remain during the winter. It has many stems on the root which branch out. He said this plant has dark red, brownish bark that was formed with many thin layers. It has scattered leaves that are a dark green. The berries were scattered randomly throughout the plant in small bushells. They are spherical berries. These berries are the ripest in september and stay throughout winter. These are edible berries that were eaten by the natives. I think that the corps may have initially been suspicious of these but once they saw the animals and natives eating them they probably chose to eat them as well.

This is commonly known as the root caus. When they encountered it was when natives would trade beads for the plant. These roots were used to make soup. Lewis reported that the natives would pound up the root an =d turn it into cakes. Then they were boiled and turned into the soup. I think that Lewis and Clark thought these were like potatoes. I think this because they are brown lumpy roots which could also describe the well known potato.

They found this animal on the Missouri River on their journey by trapping it. Lewis said that the beaver tasted really good. I know that the corps were impressed with the tail of the beaver and I think initially that was probably an odd aspect for a mammal. The beaver was successful for Lewis and Clark because part of their goal was to find animals who could be used for fur. I think that when they saw the beaver their first thought was how nice its pelt would be because that could prove very useful. The beaver helped the Americans because it was another item they could trade and make clothing out of it.

Elk kind of look like large deer with a more broad body.When Lewis and Clark first saw elk they still had antlers. I think they were impressed by the antlers since it had been cold and stormy and deer usually lose antlers when it becomes winter. I believe that they thought about how they could use the antlers for a good use. I also think they noticed the pelt of the elk. The Nez Perce lived west of the Rocky Mountains in the plains and villages are scattered in this region.the tribe was known for their  horse breeding and were excellent horsemen. Because of lack of guns and ammunition they had troubles hunting buffalo and turned to salmon instead. When they met Lewis and Clark they proved to be very helpful for the travelers. One example of this was that without the trail made by the Nez Perce, Lewis and Clark may not have been able to make it over the Bitterroot Mountains. Camp Dubois is located at 38.86 N, -90.10 W near the western border of Illinois. It is west of Hamel, IL and north of St. Louis, IL. Camp Dubois is located in the midwest and has some flat land. It also has a lake and was by the Mississippi river. When Lewis and Clark went to Camp Dubois it was December of 1803. They moved into this area for winter while they gathered supplies. They ended up leaving in 1804. This camp is a good home base, where people can live while being able to go and get supplies or live other lives.

Square Butte is located at 47 N and -111 W. Square Butte is North of Helena, South of Choteau. It is also west of Great Falls. This area is a mountain that practically has 90 degree sides and an almost flat top. This mountain is made of yellow clay. Square Butte is in the Western region of the United States.
