one thing that my family is different from Jeannette's family is that we don't move from one place to another. one thing that I have not personally experienced is getting fully burned to the point i have to go to the hospital and having my dad pick me up and run out of the hospital when i'm done with my skin graph. one thing that I have learned from Jeannette when she has little is to never worry because it will be fine. I don't know if this is an experience or not but I was pretty independent when i was little as well, not as little as Jeannette but I was independent for myself because i would cook for myself and sometimes my whole family.

In the book Jeannette Walls went to the hospital because she got burned from cooking hot dogs. Also when she finished getting her skin graph her dad picked her up and ran out the door because he didn't believe in doctors and because it as too expensive. when her parents came to visit her at the hospital her dad talked about how he didn't believe in hospitals and how her mom should have took her to the same witch doctors they took her older sister when she got stung from a poisonous scorpion. the next time her family visited her younger brother head was wrapped in a white cloth because he fell on his head and cracked it. another moment of having bad health is when Jeannette's mom got pregnant and gave birth at the hospital and a couple minuets later Jeannette's dad runs out of the hospital with her mom while holding the baby in her hands and get in the car and leave as quick as possible.

"Mary Charlene dies one night when she was nine months old.two years later, I was born. "You were to Replace Mary Charlene," Mom said."(pg 27)

the dad starts to talk about how his life was in the air force and when he left to get marry with the authors mom. at the bottom of the paragraph the mom talks about her kids and what hey were born with and she gets to this one point where she talks about her second child that passed away and how two years later she had another daughter ( The Author) to fill in the shoes of the first second daughter. this quote stands out to me because Jeannette didn't know that she was born because Mary passed away and who knows if her parents would have ever had her if Mary was still alive.

One recurring pattern would be the authors dad paranoia. the effect of the dad's paranoia of being afraid of the mafia, cops, and just being told what to do affects the whole family because now they have to move some place else where they can't be found until something else happens.

The author was about 3-6 years old in the book and for that age the author was pretty mature which tells us that she's been mature since a young age her word choice is mature.

One event would be when she would be moving and running away a lot. the purpose of the author telling this part is that she wasn't aware on what was going and the danger she was in.

The original Intend audience is for high school and up because she writes from experience as a 5-6 year old which doesn't mean that this book should be for 2nd grader because its to dark for them. Another audience this book is for is for people that went through the same thing she did because she talks about her experience and how she was able to stay calm through those though times and change the way she was living which could help someone out and get them to change their lifestyle.

one thing I value more is being independent because look back at the book the parents are showing their kids to be independent by protecting themselves. one example would be when Jeannette was in the shed with Billy and he tired to do something with her but Jeannette remember that her dad told her if a guy ever jumped on her to kick them in the groin. This shows that the dad told Jeannette what to do if a guy ever tried something she didn't want to do, so then she wouldn't have to rely on someone to protect her. because I value Independence I see that Her dad isn't a failure because he taught them to fight for themselves.

If kids that are from elementary school read the part that talks about the green lantern they would just think that the women are just nice to the men and make snacks according to what it say's in the book. Now if high school kids are reading this book and get to the part of the green lantern they would already know what happens in their because they are a bit more mature than others.

Lori and Brain don't like how their dad spends more money on booze then using it for something good. when Jeannette starts to talk about her dad she says things her dad only tells her because they talk more to each other than everyone else. The dad seems to lie to Jeannette because he cares more about her than he rest and doesn't want her to know the truth like the rest of kids.

In the book Jeannette didn't have the traditional or stable education growing up. Due to her family's lifestyle and financial struggles she had to switch schools and miss out on learning opportunities a lot. It was really tough for her to receive a good education like the other kids did. Even though she had some challenges Jeannette still wanted to gain knowledge. She found creative ways to educate herself and found learning opportunities wherever she could.

This quote captures the challenges that Jeannette and her family faced through out their life.

In the book Jeannette and her family go to church and her dad is drunk at the time as well. when they get to church and the pastor talks about the virgin Mary Rex yells " virgin my ass". something else that Rex did is say that he is an atheist, so he doesn't believe in any religion.

the characters in the book know that they are not as rich as some other people. They can see that they don't have as much money or nice things. This makes them aware of the differences between their own economic situation and others'. They have to deal with the effects of being poor and how society treats them because of it.

 Throughout the book Jeannette is constantly trying to survive and overcome the challenging conditions she and her family had to face. From a very young age she learned to fight for herself, look for food and finding creative ways to survive. Her determination to create a better life for herself is a powerful force that helps her forward.
