"I-I'm just going to the pool. With my friends." She stumbled on her words a little bit, and she was hoping her mom didn't see how frightened she was.
"Well you CAN"T, not without telling me first. Go to your room" She pointed up the stairs, and Jesse got mad. She didn't know how to explain it.  She just got mad.
"You're an idiot." She looked her mother in the eye,  something she never did. "You- You always tell me to go make friends,and when I want to, you say I can't! You are an idiot!"

Jesse pulled out a muffin, opening the wrapper. "It was fine.. did something happen?" Jesse asked, confusion creeping into her voice. 
Her mom nodded. 
"I got a call from one of your teachers, saying you failed the unit test. As a punishment, you aren't going to the pool. You are going to stay here and study, ok?" 
Jesse's jaw dropped. "Mom, what?!" she yelled. Jesse paused, taking a deep breath. "Mom, that's totally unfair. Three people passed the quiz in the whole class. It was hard, and nobody likes that teacher anyways! Why should I be punished?" she hissed. Jesse's mother raised an eyebrow, giving her a powerful stare. 
"Jesse, you know very well not to talk back to me! We made a deal at the beginning of the year. No fails, and you can skip any event that isn't mandatory to have fun with your friends." Jesse groaned. 
"Explaining myself is not talking back, or arguing! You never let me do anything! You are such a controlling parent! I'm going, and you're not going to stop me!"
