• Not a myth – It doesn't explain natural phenomena or religious beliefs.

• Not a legend – It’s not based on a semi-historical figure or heroic narrative.

• Not a fairy tale – It contains no magic or fantasy elements like witches, fairies, or enchanted objects.

• Not a fable – Though it has an animal character (a possum), the story is not structured around a moral lesson, and the animal represents a person, not a general principle.

• Not a tall tale – There’s no exaggeration or larger-than-life feats common in tall tales.

• Not a religious story – It contains no spiritual or sacred content.

The moral is that most times, we should let nature take its course.

I like to read fables to my students (7th graders).

My grandmother bought all the fabric and made the quilt that goes along with this book when I was growing up. She would read this to me and we would sleep under this quilt when I was little.
