This module allows you to better understand the process of applying, and will talk you through your opportunities to learn abroad as part of your degree programme. It is important to remember that Exchange and Erasmus are not the only ways you can add an international element to your studies, and it might be that there is another option that suits you better.

You will find the DIGIPass module in your Brightspace. You should complete the DIGIPass module over the summer, before you plan to apply.

The sessions normally cover the following:

• College-Specific Information (e.g. eligibility requirements, popular destinations, application tips)

• Application Instructions (How to complete your application correctly)

• Budgeting (Costs involved in going on exchange and how to plan for them)

• Student Q&A's (Your chance to talk with students who have previously been on exchange)

• General Q&A with UCD Global Staff

Along with these, we will also host office hours to allow for you to ask us questions directly, as well as being available via email.

Arts & Humanities Students

Your application will be in November of Stage 2.

Social Sciences & Law

Social Science (including the BA in Psychology & Criminology): Students apply in November of Stage 2.

Law Students: your application is managed by your school, and they will be able to tell your further information about when your application is due.

Engineering & Architecture

Engineering, City Planning and Landscape Architecture students: Your application is due in November of Stage 2

BArch Students: Your application is due in January of Stage 3

Science

BSc Sustainability - Your application is due in November of Stage 2

All other Science students: Due to the decision on your subject stream, your application is due in January of Stage 2

Health & Agriculture

Sports Science & Sports Management: Students will apply in July of Stage 1

All other programmes: Your programmes are managed by your school and they will tell you further information about when your application is due

You will not apply for exchange until 2026. Information on how to apply will be given to you at the appropriate time. For now, please familiarise yourself with the below timeline:

Stage 1

September/Early October: You will have your first information session about exchange

January-May: You will receive further information sessions, as outlined in the 'Information Sessions' tab on this page. You will also be able to begin to use the UCD Global website to start your research

June: Stage 1 results are released

July-October: You should complete the DIGIPass module in this time - you should not aim to complete it before this point as you won't have the necessary information. During this time, if you have obtained the necessary credits, you will move in to Stage 2

Stage 2

September-November: We will provide you with information refresher sessions, as well as drop in hours and application clinics. You should also start your research on destinations ready to fill in your preferences list in your application*

November: Your application must be completed and submitted**

December: You will find out whether or not your application has been successful

January-July: We will prepare you for your exchange departure

*If you are a Business, Law or Agriculture student your exchanges are managed separately and you should contact your College office for more information

**If you are a BSc Science, BArch, BSc Sport & Exercise Management or BSc Health & Performance Science student you will apply at a different time, likely January but tbc

• What is the likelihood of you getting a space

• What language universities teach in

We ask you to be mindful of the fact that whilst you may have had friends or family that have been on exchange, you are part of a new process that will have been different from their own with regards to the timeline and application.
