Since I started to work with children I have tried to apply Total Physical Response because You can have an entertaining class where students can learn a new language by making body movements and it is very useful.

I have been using the Communicative Approach since it aligns with the Ecuadorian curriculum. It has been useful because it permits students to develop their language skills in real-life contexts. It also encouraged interaction and communication rather than just memorization. This approach helped my students become more confident and fluent.

It is really aligned with my teaching philosophy since I believe children learn by interacting and talking between each other. Also, I believe language becomes more meaningful when they have real life experiences to share or roleplay in classes.

If you are new to the Communicative Approach, try to help students talk and use English in real situations. Use fun activities like games, role-plays, and group work. Also, don’t worry too much about their mistakes, it’s just part of the process. Take any opportunity for learning new words. Finally, I think patience is essential.

I learned during the course about the LEXICAL APPROACH, and I consider it interesting because my students also learn with patterns and pre-elaborated phrases, they memorize them and it’s easier for them to remember structures. So, I would like to start using them.

For example, I say “stand up” and they stand up. This helps them learn new words. They are happy and they remember better.

Also, I would recommend other teachers to let students move, learn and make mistakes. Make the class fun and friendly.
