Some of his problems were that he was stuck on a life boat with deadly animals and he was dying of thirst. In the text it states " I believe it was this that saved my life that morning, that I was quite literally dying of thirst. Now that the word had popped into my head I couldn't think of anything else." This piece of evidence shows how Pi had a conflict and tried to resolve it by trying to find some water that's what kept him alive. Another piece of evidence showing the problem that Pi had was that he was stuck on a boat with a hyena and a full grown tiger. In the text it states "Did the hyena sense something of my mastery ? Did it say to himself, " Super alpha is watching me - I better move" This shows how Pi was stuck on the boat with deadly animals. But not only he was stuck on the boat with them he is struggling to survive from a lack of water.

This is extreme because he could die if he would not drink. Also the setting was extreme because on board was the tiger. It states in the story "Richard Parker was still on board." This shows that tiger was onboard. Its extreme because the tiger can rip him easily. In the story there was challenges for Pi to face however, he was thirst but he  decide to survive.
