Patsy had gone through a large portion of change as we saw in the novel so far. From the beginning of the story, she didn't talk much and mostly stammered. At the point that we are at now, she seems to have gotten a little braver with her speech I think this is because she is helping others to read. I also think her diary put more bravery into her. Maybe " talking" to it will grow her confidence.
