A spider diagram is a visual plan. Essentially you can explain to the 'viewer' what your plan is by using simple spider diagrams. Start with your main idea first, then using arrows or lines you can branch off and add further circles with text or text boxes containing elements of your design idea, for example, colours required (list colours), target audience, contact details etc..

A storyboard is a graphic representation of how your video will unfold, shot by shot.

It’s made up of a number of squares with illustrations or pictures representing each shot, with notes about what’s going on in the scene and what’s being said in the script during that shot. Think of it as sort of a comic book version of your script.

Why you need a storyboard:

Best way to share your vision

A visual aid makes it much easier for you to share and explain your vision for your video with others.

When you have a storyboard, you can show people exactly how your video is going to be mapped out and what it will look like. This makes it infinitely easier for other people to understand your idea.

Makes production much easier

When you storyboard a video you’re setting up a plan for production, including all the shots you’ll need, the order that they’ll be laid out, and how the visuals will interact with the script.

The storyboard is a starting point or suggested thoroughline around which you can plan your coverage (all the angles you will shoot of a scene). This really comes in handy when you’re making your video, as it ensures you won’t forget any scenes and helps you piece together the video according to your vision.

Saves you time

While it may take you a little while to put your storyboard together, in the long run it will save you time in revisions later.

Not only will it help you explain your vision to your team, it will also make the creation process go more smoothly.

Please write up the following Key Terms into your revision document using your own words.

Workplan: An outline of what you are going to do and how long it is going to take you to do each task. This helps ensure your project is organised and will be completed on time, in addition to making sure all memebers of a team know what to expect.

Typical plans include the following:
Tasks: The individual elements that make up the final project. Things such as pre-production, post-production, hiring equipment, etc.
Activities: Breakdown of the tasks into small chunks. For example Pre-production could be broken into reserach, moodboards, storyboards, meetings etc.
Resources: Things that are needed to complete tasks, everything needs to be listed. Camera, computer, actors, etc.
Milestones: Key points within the project, often these are dates where certain activities have to be completed by. For example filming start date, filming end date, etc.
Work Flow: Flow of work which needs to be created for the final product to be done.
Timescale: This is the individual timings given to each tasks to make sure you meet milestones and final deadlines. For example time spent on research, time for storyboarding, etc.
Contingency: This is extra time built in just in case something goes wrong, such as unexpected events like bad weather or illness, things taking longer than you expected, or even extra costs. Always give yourself some leeway before the official end date.

More limited use .

Resolution: This means how many lines, pixels or dots are present over a standard length (dpi). Length is usually inches or millimeters.

Compression:
.zip
Compression means to reduce the size of a data file for example a document, spreadsheet, image, sound file etc.

It is a good idea to compress large files because they can take up a lot of storage space on your hard disk.

They will also take a long time to send as an attachment by email.

Sound FIle Types:

WAV - uncompressed format commonly used on a PC.

AIFF - uncompressed format commonly used on a Mac.

MP3 - common format for digital music players. It is compressed, which results in loss of quality (though usually undetected by the listener), but has a much smaller file size.

Video File Types:
Low File Size

FLV (Flash Video) is generally used for streaming video - videos you watch online but don't usually download. The filesize is very small and the quality can be remarkably good for such small files. YouTube uses FLV files for the standard quality videos.

Flexible

WMV (Windows Media Video) is the standard filetype used by Windows. WMV files aren't that popular with experts because they don't work well on other systems (e.g. Macs or Linux) and aren't always the best quality.

AVI (Audio Video Interleave) files are very popular. They can be made using different codecs (you might have heard of DivX and XviD, which are popular codecs). A codec is a set of instructions for packaging the video.

MOV (Quicktime) file format is owned by Apple. The files are generally more popular than WMV files, though, as they still work well on other systems such as Windows and Linux.

MPEG (or MPG) files are kind of similar to AVI files, because there are several different versions. MPEG1 was used for the original VCDs (Video CDs) which came out before DVDs. MPEG2 was (and still is) used for DVDs and MPEG4 is used for Bluray and also for iPod video files (they are often called MP4 files as well).

Large Filesize

DV (Digital Video) files are what you get from most camcorders - at least the ones that use tapes. DV footage is absolutely huge, but is a good format to edit with because you don't lose too much quality. Problem is that they are near impossible to download due to the large size.
