Discussion of Organism

A bee has a fuzzy body and fuzzy legs. This helps the pollen stick to the bee in order for the bee to pollinate the plants. When bees land on a flower, the pollen from that flower sticks to the fuzzy hair and can be carried to the next flower of a plant that the bee lands on. Farmers are buying bee hives to place near their crop fields to help with pollination and increase yields.
In my project I have used pipe cleaners to act as the bee’s legs. At first, I had only wrapped pipe cleaners around popsicle sticks or a straw to use. I realized this would not be effective for farmers who have large fields with a large crop yield. This led me to think of the use of a drone. The farmer would be able to attach pipe cleaners to the body of the drone- like a bee. The pipe cleaners would act as bee’s legs and help in the pollination of the crop. The pipe cleaners would need to touch the flowers of the crops in order to move the pollen from flower to flower.

How this model will work

This model will work like a bee. The drone will have coiled pipe cleaners on it. The pipe cleaners will act as a bee's legs and body. It will pick up the pollen and carry it to another flower. This will in turn pollinate the next plant. The farmer will have to fly the drone across the field carefully touching the pipe cleaners to the plant. Drones are already being used in agriculture to crop scout (Check for insects in the field or for nitrogen deficiency by the color of the corn). This creation will simply be adding the bee like structure to help pollinate the crop.

I first started out with a popsicle stick and one pipe cleaner wrapped around it. This was far too small to be efficient in an actual field. I tried using a tobacco stick next. Even though this was a larger object, it was difficult keeping the pipe cleaners wrapped around the stick. It was also not efficient enough for a farmer to use in a field. Lastly I thought of a drone. Drone's are already used in agriculture to check on the fields and crops. By attaching pipe cleaners to the body and flying the drone over the field, the drone would become like a bee and would pollinate the crops.
