I learned about industry standard camera rigs and equipment in this workshop including the Red Komodo, Sony FX9, Black Magic's Ursa, and the Arri Alexa mini, which are rarely seen in student productions. Before the workshop, I did substantial research on the equipment and the company so as to understand most aspects of rigs and what’s the advantage of using them as a filmmaker. Throughout the whole workshop, we had the opportunity to get hands on with the camera rigs with the help of CVP whom have extensive knowledge in rigs. I learned what each piece of equipment did on the rig. For instance, the CineTape on the Arri Alexa Mini rig is used to calculate the distance of the object in front of the camera, which greatly aids the focus puller in getting a good and clear picture. My experience at the workshop encouraged me to expand my horizons and take on other set roles, such as assistant camera operator and grip. This workshop aided me in understanding what camera rig is best for what situation and what image quality it produces which is immensely important in the storytelling aspect of film. Across the globe, they embed creative thinking into institutions, brands, and organisations. During the talk, I gained an understanding of the importance of mental health and empowering yourself which would result in you striving to achieve a goal you'd think you wont be able to to accomplish. Before the talk, I had doubts that what I aspire to be would not matter to the entire world, however during the talk, I discovered that creativity can be political act, as what we chose to create has an effect on society and can change peoples perceptions on an agenda or statement. In particular, the suffragettes stamped "VOTES FOR WOMEN" on the head side of pennies. This simple creative act was extremely symbolic and helped suffragettes achieve their goal. This talk gave me an insight into global issues and how we can change them using our imagination. It was extremely helpful having workers from Canon as I was able to ask questions that I have been having for a long time being clearly answered by the Canon team. Before the workshop, I had desire of owning or using canon products for my projects such as the C500 mark ii and C70 which are considered to be great cinema cameras with amazing image quality. Me getting the opportunity to use and get a feel of the cameras has greatly helped me in deciding what camera from Canon and other equipment would I use and get for different scenarios. Simeon Quarrie gave an insight view of how he approaches research as in his own words "Research is an essential stage of storytelling. It's where our narrative and characters become grounded. It's the key that unlocks the door to making our training relatable." This workshop completely changed my approach to research as before I did not dive deep into what I was researching on, resulting in me producing mediocre work. As a filmmaker, confidence and communication is essential in a productive environment, Simeon Quarrie confidence and great oratory skills greatly inspired me. After the workshop, I decided to message him on his social media seeking further advice.
