Her family did not have enough money to pay for treatment or medicine, causing her to live with the illnesses most of her life. One day, Olga (who was not very religious) went to church to ask God to heal her, and in return, dedicating her life to healing immigrants who were severely injured. Olga's recovery made her realize how great the grace of God was, and motivated her to seek out injured migrants and help heal them, like God healed her. Olga's character is relevant to Nazario's story because she demonstrates a helper on the journey, which was necessary in order for survival. Her actions prove that even in the worse situations there is always a "light".
