"Citizens can't just remove themselves from that process. They actually have to engage themselves and not just leave it to the professionals." Page. 3
Obama said this statement during his presidency. This directly relates to the current problem with our youth today. The youth of today has removed themselves from politics hoping the experts will resolve all the issues and never bothers to pay attention or get involved in their government.

"And while political apathy isn't restricted to young people, a tremendous gap has opened between young adults and the elderly people on measures of political interest, knowledge, and participation." Page. 3
This gap is one that continues to grow every year and is becoming a critical problem because the youth of America is a big percentage of America's population and if they don't care about what is taking place in the government, the policies being put in place could be detrimental to them.

"Which shows the average percentage of correct answers for various age groups in 1972 and 2008, in 2008 young people were correct only 20 percent of the time whereas people over 65 were correct more than twice as often." Page. 4
This directly is related to youth being involved in politics because the youth had no idea what was going on in their government. A lot of knowledge of their government and political problems poses a crucial problem in the youth of America which will eventually impact the future of America.

"Political knowledge, they argue, fosters civic virtues, such as political tolerance; helps citizens to identify what policies would truly benefit them and then incorporate this information in their voting behavior; and promotes active participation in politics. Page. 5
Without having political knowledge you will not know what policies will benefit you in the end. If the youth isn;t aware of current political issues it could also impact their vote and lead them to voting for the wrong candidate.
