This is a story in which a boy and his sister are competing to sell the most lemonade in the summer. One purpose of the text is to help students recognize and understand that realistic fiction is a story that could really happen. The second is to explain what motivates a character to think, feel, or act in a certain way.

Day 2: Students will read "The Lemonade War" Within their table teams

Day 3: I will read "Because of Winn Dixie" aloud to the class. (We are nearing the end of the story... about 3/4 of the way through)

Day 4: Table teams will read "Because of Winn Dixie" together for the first bit of class.

Day 5: Students will have time to read their individual books.
