Weeping Woman was painted in October 1937, just a few months after Picasso finished the mural.

from this the Weeping Woman is inspired by an image of a woman holding her dead child. It influenced by Picasso's anti-war mural Guernica. During the Spanish Civil War, Picasso created both works in 1936-39. It was in response to the bombing of Guernica, a Basque town. The attack was carried out by Nazi Germany's air force in April 1937 in support of Spain's Nationalist forces. Hundreds of people were slaughtered. Dora Maar, an artist and photographer, inspired the Weeping Woman figure.

The Weeping Women is currently in the hands of Spanish State witch they own the biggest collection of weeping woman images, which is kept with "Guernica" at the Museo nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia.
