• Give each child a simple abacus

• Practice counting from 1 to 10 by sliding beads.

• Use prompts like:

• “Can you show me 4 beads?”

• “If I slide 2 beads and then 1 more, how many do I have?”

• Use a timeline to show Ruby’s place in history (1960) compared to students’ birth years.

• Say: “Ruby was just 6 years old—just like some of you—when she helped change history.”

• Read "The Story of Ruby Bridges by Robert Coles."

• Use a wall calendar with colorful icons, photos, and symbols.

• Highlight cultural holidays, heritage months, and family traditions.

• Include birthdays and special days from students’ cultures (ex. Hanukkah, New Year, Christmas, Easter, and Juneteenth)

Introduce one language each week with:

• A greeting

• A song from that culture

• A simple cultural fact (Ex. “In Japan, people bow when they say ‘Konnichiwa.’”)

• Let students use that greeting during morning circle time.
