I chose this newspaper article about Climate Change because it is a huge social change that's affecting everyone. The textbook states, "Second, discovery occurs when people take notice of existing elements of the world."(p.527) under the section, "Causes of Social Change". Many people started noticing how bad climate change is getting and many people have come together to make a change before it's too late.

-Works Cited:
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/12/04/climate/climate-change-acceleration.html?searchResultPosition=6

I chose this image because it is true that Flint doesn't have clean water but the sign has a little twist, which is considered a rumor, which guides collective behavior. The textbook states, "The mass media, social media, and the Internet can quickly spread local issues and events across the country and around the world."(p.530). Many people heard of the Flint situation even without knowing the facts but some change was still provided because of the attention it got.

-Works Cited:
https://images.app.goo.gl/ZCmimJGBsUMX9UET8

I chose this cartoon because I believe it shows a great example of bureaucracy and how it effects people and their lives. The textbook states, "In a mass society, power resides in large bureaucracies, leaving people in local communities with little control over their lives."(p.541). The cartoon is displaying how people in charge are never available and they are left with little they can do about it. The company in the cartoon may have certain policies in place for a specific reason but those reasons aren't always far to everyone.

-Works Cited:
https://images.app.goo.gl/5vUHpJuRYcLgKk5h9

I chose this image because it shows clearly how capitalism is overlooking major problems that can be so simply fixed and in doing so, can fix many more problems. The textbook states, "For example, a capitalist culture seeks to improve health through advances in scientific medicine rather than by eliminating poverty, despite the fact that poverty is a core cause of poor health."(p.541). If poverty was eliminated then health would improve and in the image, if "tax cuts" gave a chunk of money to reduce healthcare, college, and housing costs then those problems would be solved as well.

-Works Cited:
https://images.app.goo.gl/znhAXcaCqM9NHGVv7

I chose this pdf with information about sexism because it explains what it is and mainly, who it harms and in what ways, and it's an example of modernity and its effect on an individual and the class-society theory. The textbook states, "Similarly, although women participate more broadly in modern societies, they continue to run up against traditional barriers or sexism."(p.544). Sexism is still a major issue, for both women and men, it makes them feel powerless for simply participating in social life. Modernity, as states in the textbook, has given people a sense of freedom but in other cases it hasn't affected everyone so greatly.

-Works Cited:
https://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~geneq/docs/infoSheets/SexismInfosheet.pdf

I chose this cartoon/image because it shows how two people can see the same thing but have different observations about it, kind of like postmodernity. The textbook states, "For example, postmodern family no longer conforms to any single pattern: on the contrary, individuals are choosing among many new family forms."(p.546). The perspectives of people and families has changed and they now see things differently in the postmodern era. Not everyone has the same perspective, as shown in the image, there are different views on the same concept.

-Works Cited:
https://images.app.goo.gl/qyKvYNHq5HyeE5hU6

I picked this image of a powerpoint slide because I think it explains what the modernization theory is and it provides examples for each section. The textbook states, "Modernization theory claims that in the past, the entire world was poor and that technological change, especially the Industrial Revolution, enhanced human productivity and raised living standards in many nations."(p.546). Like the image shows and the textbook explains, the modernization they claims that technological advances will help poor people.

-Works Cited:
https://images.app.goo.gl/jvvXjfuzbXKWFjHPA
