Judging from his disappointment of not able to find 1 Singaporean for intern is just so depressing.

3. What are some ways to Apply what I have learned?
I think we really need to relax our mindset of academic first! We should start to infuse in our daily lesson of getting our pupils to be "dare to fail". To venture out of their comfort space. To really give questions that has no answers so that they can be used to being not so open track minded.

4. What am I going to Do about it?
I think I must start look into encouraging failure in my lesson. Deliberately setting questions that are open-ended so as to challenge their discomfort.

1. What have I Read?
The Sg Education system should go away from too much focus on academic success and more into evoking curiosity among the students, to inculcate resilience and to learn to be actively hungry for success.

2. What did I Observe?
I resonate very much with the author; it is unfortunate to see students nowadays who hardly possess drive, gives up easily and focuses on the wrong things. Ultimately, these are the results of the helicopter parents who choose to focus on the functional aspects of the child rather than the emotional well-being. These parents provide for them and protect them too well at the expense of exposing them to risks and letting them face failure. Whilst the parents definitely mean well, but the sheltered mentality transcends to the next generation.

3. What are some ways to Apply what I have learned / Do about it?
I can only try my best to continue doing what I know is right, and continually seek the buy-in from parents as much as I can. More importantly, I think I can play a part in helping them be more savvy and world-ready (though much of the issues at hand stem from the mindsets of the parents), hope that the children can learn how to fail and to provoke their curiosity.

4. What am I going to Do about it?

Keep on keeping on, and hope for constitutional changes which will empower us in doing things right.

It is time for us to go beyond book-smarts, to instil a spirit of resilience and of curiousity in our students to prepare them for the future.

2. What did I Observe?
I do agree with the reading to a certain extent. Our students are more complacent and prefer to be "spoon fed" with information rather than be curious and find out for themselves.

3. What are some ways to Apply what I have learned?
In the classroom, when I ask questions, sometimes I will answer my own questions as the students are just keeping quiet. I am guilty of "spoon feeding" my students with answers and information.

4. What am I going to Do about it?
I must make an effort to let the students be more curious and let the students find out for themselves instead of providing them the answer. Student learn best by doing.
It is okay to answer wrongly. It show that they are resilience and they learnt from their mistakes.

1. What have I Read? I have read on the growing concern on our Singapore students’ inability to excel beyond school. 2. What did I Observe? I observe that our students are not prepared for challenges in the real world. Is our education system only result oriented and lacks other key skills to equip the students to sustain themselves and complete globally in the workforce? 3. What are some ways to Apply what I have learned? I can invoke curiosity and design my lessons such that the students have opportunities to be resilient, have the winning mentality and are eager to succeed. 4. What am I going to Do about it?I will expose my students to current affairs. Give opportunities to voice their views on global matters and how it affects Singapore and themselves. By opening such conversations, students will be encouraged to voice their views independently and break away from the sheltered mentality.

R: Time and time, again there is talk of the importance of holistic education, balance between academic and character. It is important now to inculcate the right values in our children for their future.
O: I agree with the rest about the shift in MOE direction to inculcating students with values such as resilience (Entrepreneurial Dare) and preparing our students for future skills. However, I think as teachers, we are still stuck in a dilemma of finishing syllabus and feeding information to our students instead of letting them explore.
A: I would like to learn from colleagues who has successfully implement lessons that highlights the 21st CC skills; to apply the pedagogy of effective questioning to get our students thinking and learn from their mistakes and continue to persevere.
D: Like what the article mentioned, 'curiosity is an essential trait in the future economy', hence, I would like to spark curiosity in our students by exposing them to interesting experiences.

Absolutely nothing wrong with this thinking framework!
