Between 1525 and 1866, 12.5 million Africans were captured and sent to the Americas by boat, with nearly 2 million dying. Slaves were mistreated and looked down upon, and the prejudice continued beyond Juneteenth. Despite the freedom granted, the Black community is still targeted by those who see them in a negative light.
