Compared to Mesopotamia, Rome had different ideas and principles for their "superior society". The Roman empire society predominantly focused on a good economy and strong military. Unlike Mesopotamia, which had kings and such, Rome was a representative democracy. Although, the Pax Romana started the line of emperors, and military dictatorship. The military was a very vital part in Rome's society. In fact, the main societal structure of Rome is built upon the military status, soldiers, and their loyalty. Overall, the military was integrated heavily into the society of the Rome empire. Not only that, but Romans are known for the significant inventions and architectural structures that they have not only implanted in their society, but for many years to come, all the way to the present. For my cultural artifact, I choose the Pantheon, which is also displayed in the image above. The Pantheon is and remains important to Rome due to its connection to the past of its former society.

Mesopotamia

In Mesopotamia, you could say their standards of a superior society are different from those of Rome. For the people of Mesopotamia, cultural techniques that were developed in that time period, and kings were important in their own ideal society. Although, polytheism was significant for both societies, shown in all their shrines and temples dedicated to their gods. Mesopotamia relied on cities and villages to further shape their society, and places where the people lived. As opposed to the Roman Empire, which was solely composed of city-states. For Mesopotamia, I choose Hammurabi's code as my cultural artifact. In the Mesopotamian society, this was an important set of laws that would represent the acceptable and social restraints of what you can or can't do. This contributed to how the justice system would work in Mesopotamian society.
