In the first chapter he starts off as a hitchhiker (P.3) and end up getting a ride by Jim Gallien. Jim Gallien ends up wondering if he is a crackpot(P.4) because of how Chris wants to go deep into the bushes and "live off the land for a few months," similar to what actual crackpots say. When they got to the part where the highway begins to climb in the range of Alaska, Chris took out his crude(P.5) map pointed to the Stampede trail where he want to go. Jim tried to dissuade(P.5) Chris from going because he thought Chris wouldn't survive with what he's got. After when Chris got dropped off he gave Jim his camera(P.7) and told him to take a picture of him shouldering his shoulder. After Jim drove off and thought of telling state troopers about Chris since he was so worried but then convinced himself everything would be fine.     

Analysis : I admire Chris because of how he just stops living his normal like and tries to live it they way he wants to. Even I think that's pretty cool but feel like he should have been more careful when he was in the woods or at least taken Jim's advice and be more prepared.

Later it explains that the bus doesn't get much visitors(P.10.)however in the early September 1992, 6 people, not together, decided to visit the bus. When 3 of the 6 people got close they saw 2 other people spooked(P.12)because they noticed a funky smell and a S.O.S note. They found Chris's dead body in the bus. They decided to evacuate the body right away however their vehicles didn't have enough space so they were wondering how to move the body until a 6th person appeared, owning an 8 wheeled ATV, was asked to take the body but declined(P.13) and suggested they should leave it to the state troopers. After when the remains were taken an autopsy(P.13) was performed but it was hard to know how he died.They couldn't identify him all they rely on was the signature on the note and the photos(P.14.) of him.

Analysis : I feel bad for Chris thinking being in the wild was all he needed in his life but then had to face a tragic death where the only hope he had was for a  stranger to randomly come across him.

Later on a man named Westerberg picked up Chris end kept driving for ten more minutes until he made it to a town to drop off a package to a friend. Chris wolfed(P.17) down a meal that was provided by Westerberg's friend. Later after that they kept driving and by the time Chris was dropped off it was raining. Westerberg felt bad so he offered him a place to stay and even a job. Chris took up the offer and gave the expression of being the hardest(P.18) worker to Westerberg. Westerberg found out Chris's real name(P.18) but didn't try to pry into why he changed it. Chris thought of Carthage as his home(P.18)thanks to Westerberg but later one Westerberg got arreasted. After the information of this was explained the author talk about Chris's family and how his life was before and when he planned to leave.

Analysis : I feel like everyone wants to leave when it comes to family problems but it's hard to believe that people actually leave when there are family problems. I also feel like if you see people on a friendly basis you think of them as family or a friend like Chris did.

Chris left it there because the only way to get it back starting he would have to contact the ranger and he didn't want to do that. He later leaves with Wayne before departing(P.29) for Alaska. When he went on his own he got picked up by some boaters who took him to Callville Bay. He then went to Lake Tahoe, Sierra Nevada and the to north  on the Pacific Crest Trail returning to the pavement. He got picked up by a man named Crazy Ernie who offered him a job.Chris took the job but then noticed that he wasn't going to get payed. He then stole a bike and dropped it at a mall. He later gets a ride by Jan and Bob who take him then Chris ends up leaving them. Chris gets ticketed(P.34) for hitchhiking. Chris accidentally gives his parents address away. He then goes Mexico where he gets lost and almost drowns in a canoe(P.32). When he tries to go back to the U.S. he gets caught by immigration authorities. He then goes to L.A. to get an I.D. and a job.

Analysis : I think it's cool how Chris didn't get stopped or distracted by all the challenges he faced. He just kept going no matter what.

Chris said that he was tired(P.43) of the place and wanted to leave the city and then left with Jan and Bob three miles outside Niland and stayed there for a while. He then left to get his final paycheck with Jan. Jan offered him money and other supplies but he got offended(P.46) and refused to take it.

Analysis : I was surprised to find out that Chris wanted to get the hell out of there when he considered to abandon his trampling life.

Later on that trip Franz asked Chris if he can adopt(P.55) him. Chris dodged the question then later parted at Grand Junction. Later Franz got a letter from Chris. Chris was in South Dakota with a job. He told him he wasn't staying long and told him to live a life that makes him happy, to do thing he normally wouldn't do.   Franz took his advice and set camp at Chris's old camp spot. Later he had to move because of a flood but wait near there in hopes to see Chris again. The day after Christmas he picked up two hitchhikers and told them about his friend Alex A.K.A Chris but was interrupted to be informed that Chris had died. After he dropped them off and started drinking again. He claimed that he turned into an atheist(P.60) because he couldn't believe god could let a special person die.

Analysis : I feel bad for Ron for the fact that he lost his family then gain connection with Chris that gave him happiness again just Chris to die as well.

Then Wayne says he was never tried to question him about Chris's family problems(P.63) and thought he had a good reason to hate them but then changed his mind because of his death. Then it explain about Chris's love life. Chris thought of getting married(P.65) once that gave off the idea he took relationships seriously. Chris said that after his trip he would return(P.66) at least for the full and then after it will just depend. After he went with Wayne to go have dinner with Wayne's mom. On Chris's last day in Carthage he partied hard and even played piano which shocked a couple people. He then left and sent letters but one made it sound like he wasn't going to be seen by them ever again.

Analysis : I respect Chris for getting into a relationship to get married because now a lot of people just get into relationship for fun and have no intentions on getting married so they just mess with the people they are with.

For example Edward Hoagland, a Vietnam vet, built a cabin on the Black river to get away(P.72) from people. He later then died from starvation with no attempt to stay alive. Another was Gene Rossellini who was about 40 years old. He was an intelligent(P.73) guy. He was experimenting on whether or not he could survive with modern, Roman times, Iron Age, and Bronze age Technology. He then realized that living like for the rest of his life was not possible. He set a new goal but sadly didn't meet it because he was found with a knife in his heart. Another was John Waterman, who had a hard life. He was a mountain climber. His parents got divorced(P.76) he lost eight of his friends to accidents or suicides. This took a toll on him and then proceeded to keep climbing mountains and then decides to climb the hardest mountain to climb in Alaska. He was never seen again, not even his corpse was found. The last one was Carl Mccun who went to Alaska for pictures of wild life. He came prepared but forgot to tell the pilot that took him their to comeback when he was done. He was starving and cold. He saw a plane over him but gave him the wrong hand signal so the plane left without picking him up. He put himself out of his misery and shot himself in the head.

Analyse : I feel bad for all of them especially for John, Edward, and Jene who suffered mentally rather than physically which lead to their suicide/death. It's so surprising how Carl had such bad luck that it led him to his death.

After he was done with high school he was back on the road(P.90) travelling once again. He then dropped out of UCLA to go chase his dream(P.96). When Everett wasn't found people believed(P.94) that he fell writing on another wall like he did with the wall that says "Nemo 1934". Others think that he was murdered but no one is certain. His parent claimed that he named himself Nemo because he probably was inspired(P.94)by Captian Nemo from the book Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.

Analysis : Even it's sad that Everett died I feel like he was happy with his life. Like personally me before I die I want to leave a mark on this world to so that I existed like he did.

He told them he was from South Dakota so they shifted(P.99) their investigation there. It turned out to be a dead end but then Wayne found out about the investigation and called the Trooper and said it was Chris as well and offered his social security number(P.101) which led the investigation to go to Virginia but unfortunately Billie and Walt McCandless had moved(P.101). They then contacted his older brother and had faxed a photograph(P.101) which then his older brother confirmed that it was Chris McCandless. 

Analyses : It is so mind blowing knowing that the only reason why the body was identified was because of some of the people that Chris met along his journey.

He then explain that he had met his fathers expectations(P.147) that he would somehow mess it up. Jon then explains how he and his dad don't have a good fatherson relationship. Jon tells us that his father hectored(P.148) him and his siblings to have a life his father wants for them and not what they want. He then explains that the person who demanded for perfection from him and his siblings was far from perfect. He states that his dad had some pain and started taking pain killers where he then became addicted to them. He then was suicidal(P.155) and tried to kill himself in front of Jon on purpose. Jon then goes back to when he was climbing and tried to climb his third attempt. He decided to sleep on the way and said he hadn't such loneliness(P.152). He then finally climbed the Devil's Thumb to the top. He then tries to find the resemblance between his tail and Chris's and then says that Chris just like him had a dangerous adventure without actually wanting to die.

Analysis : The things our parents do when we're around means a lot more to us than they think they do like don't do or say anything that you know you will regret because we will carry that action in our minds forever

It first starts off with Walter a hard worker who was 56 years old at the time. He is a tall bearded man who is a bit of a jerk. It then goes back to Chris's childhood to when his parent get married and move to Virginia. It was hard for both Chris and his sister since their parents were pretty much ignoring(P.109) them. They didn't purposely want to ignore them but they just work all the time. Chris was smart and he tested high on a standardized and was put in an accelerated(P.106) course in which he complained because it meant more work. He kept trying to get out of it. As he grew up he kept getting great grade except for the one time he got an F for not formatting his assignments the way the teacher wanted it. When Chris was close to graduating he said he had no intention(P.114) on going to college. After hearing this his parents started nagging at him telling him that he should go to college which ended working since he went to Emory. He was obviously upset about since he doesn't like to be told what to do. He even called his parents tyrants(P.115). It later explain that Chris just like his parents was a hustler and that he started to earn money at the age of eight. Before graduating he was offered a good deal by a construction company telling him that they would pay for his education if he stayed and worked rather than going to Emory. Chris didn't even consider it and claimed that he had a different plan of going across the country.

Analysis : I think both Chris and his parents are being selfish. Chris is selfish because he didn't want the opportunity of going to college that his parents gave him by working so hard. His parents are selfish because he didn't ask for them to work so he could go to college. It's like since you worked hard for us now we feel  like we're obligated to go to college without letting us decide whether we want to go or not.

She says that while Chris was gone he never contacted her once which made it more of a surprise for her when she was given the news about her brother. She took the loss(P.132) pretty hard that she started screaming hard even when her husband was trying to comfort her. She goes to Alaska to pick up Chris's ashes and on the way she went to church and said that she was asking god(P.130) questions but he didn't answer  

Analysis : It must be hard to not see your brother and then finding out he's dead. I can kind of relate to this because even though my brother hasn't died he can since he's a marine. I don't really see him often because he gets sent off to a lot of places. He has been injured which ends up making me and my family worried.

Chris's celebrate him graduating. Chris tell them about the accident which cause the rest of the family to be cautious. They try and tell to be more careful but he brushes it off since he  is known to be overconfident(P.118). He then went to college and took weapons with him to put it in his dorm. He was happy and even thought of going to law school. Then it explained that even though Chris is carrying and kind he also has a dark personality(P.120). Later it says that the relationship between Chris and his parents started weakening because of a discovery(P.121) Chris had in California. He found out his dad was cheating on his mom and that he had a double life with a second family. Chris called his father a hypocrite(P.122) because of all the fatherly lectures he gave to Chris. Chris left without a phone so his parents couldn't contact him very often. They were sending letters to him and one of them was saying that it's not right that he is distancing himself from them because of whatever reason he has. When Chris saw it all he said was "stupid"(P.124)  

Analysis : I think it was good that he was distancing himself from his dad but it wasn't when it was also his mom. What his dad did was unforgivable.

He then explains that Chris's friend said he was born in the wrong century that the current century at the time did provide enough freedom(P.174) that Chris wanted. Jon then says that at first he wanted to go to the trail alone and that he got annoyed when the other 3 joined him but then realized that he was relieved he had company(P.176) since he was sort of scared. He then say that Chris thought he killed a moose(P.177) to some hunters but they said it was a caribou and then called him stupid for not knowing it. Jon had published the news about it and everyone who saw it though less of Chris calling him incompetent and saying that he shouldn't have explored if he couldn't tell the difference. Later on it was revealed that it was in fact a moose. Jon makes it to the bus and decided to look inside and see Chris's belongings. He then compared him to another man in the past. After Jon and his friends set up a campfire and decided to talk about Chris. They all agreed that Chris was not stupid or incompetent and that he deserved to have a little more respect since the difficult(P.185) journey he had was one not many people can do for a long period of time and especially from the people that called him names. They later on began to sleep as the sun start to rise.

Analysis : I feel like they right claiming that Chris deserves a little more respect because he really did something not a lot of people can pull off I mean I know I couldn't. Although it was stupid for Chris to not take a map like I know he didn't want it but he should've taken one for when the time comes that he wanted to go back to his old world.

When he got to Alaska he said that he had a conversation with a woman there and said it was a relief(P.137) that she didn't react in a wrong when he told her what his plans in Alaska were. They then had dinner and he slept at her house. The next day he went to the stikine ice cap where stop and decides to set up his tent(P.140) in which he said he was expecting to stay there for a while. As days passed by Jon grew more anxious(P. 140) and then he heared a plane in which he started waving and yelling. The plane dropped boxes and then left which made Jon sad because he was alone in silence. The next day he started climbing and explained that he had to focus(P.142)  on the climb, so focused that you forget about everything else that bother you. He proceed to climb then he slammed into a slab of diorite and kept hitting it in all directions. He then noticed the only way to go was down(P.144).

Analysis : Jon has guts since climbs mountains. I can never climb a mountain for the fact that I am afraid of heights and on top of that I can't stay in small spaces for more than a day or else I start to freak out.

He reconsidered because he noticed that Chris wasn't a typical(P.159) hitchhiker. They made it to Fairbanks where they then went to the grocery store and then the university so Chris can study what plants/berries are edible. Stucky(the man who gave him a ride) told him he was too early(P.159)that there was 3 feet of snow and there is probably nothing growing. Stucky drops him off and then he is given a ride again by a guy named Jim Gallien. Jim later drops him off at the Stampede Trail. Then from there his whereabouts are based off from the journal(P.163) entries he made. He walk along the Teklanika river and then makes it to the bus(P.163). He says he had a weak kill game but later then he gathered a good amount of lingonberries. Then the journal stated what he had done day after day. He climbed a mountain and killed a moose. He then couldn't make to his actual destination so he goes back to the bus. Later he reads a paragraph from one of the books he has and then decides to pack his things and go back and join civilization once again. On his way back he see a full flood Teklanika river in which he went back to the bus to wait because he was too weak and he is afraid(P.170) of the water.
         
Analysis : It's funny how Chris finally realized what his family meant by saying to be more prepared. He is afraid of water but some of his journey was in the water like it's a pretty great surprise.

Before the entry that there was no sign of his circumstances being like hell(P.189). People believe that the cause of this inconvenience was poison(P.190) as in he ate something poisonous. He couldn't hunt or gather food in which he needs to fight off the poison. Jon stated there was a fully stocked cabin in a 3 hour walk width span and that Chris would've known this too if he had a map. Starvation(P.198) was the problem he had to face not to long after and that when he put the SOS note on the bus when he went hunting. No one came so Chris realized that his days of being alive were numbered. He then takes a selfie with a sign saying his last GOODBYE(P.199). Chris was most likely to die on August 19 which was 19 days before the six people found his body. 

Analysis : It's like a bunch of mixed feeling like it's sad that he died but also so frustrating that his death could've been prevented if he wasn't so stubborn and brought a map with him.

They took a helicopter there and when they arrived they were just staring(P.202) at he bus without saying any words. Then Billie says that it's smaller than she thought(P.202) it would be but it still a pretty view. They look at it taking in everything that was in there and then Billie put supplies and food there for the next people who decide to journey here just in case they need it. It also came with a note telling to whom ever may read to call their parents as soon as possible. She also put Chris's bible when he was a kid and then said she hasn't prayed(P.202) since the day she lost Chris. They then talk about how people admire him and then leave via helicopter again and they watch as the bus fades from view and is finally gone(P.203).  

Analysis : It's good that his parents are finally at peace when it comes to his death because they know that he was brave and at least died achieving his goal.

He kept coming back to the journal Chris had. He kept looking at "Extremely weak. Fault of potato seeds" in which he said it is something you can't just ignore(¶ 4). He stated looking into the seeds neurotoxin called beta-ODAP. He thought that this was the reason and was about to close the case but then he decided to try and keep looking into it. He found out that the toxin(¶ 9) wasn't beta-ODAP but in fact L-canavanine. This toxin tricks the person that eat them in thinking it's good for them but it actually short circuits their metabolism(¶ 10). When this became public a lot of people of Alaska reacted poorly. However an Alaskan who had done the original test on the seed said that he admit(¶ 17) that he missed it in the beginning but agrees with McCandless. Jon then stated that the only factor that was missing was the amount Chris had ate with the 2 week span. Jon then says that if it hadn't been for the seeds, Chris may have survived(¶ 20).

Analysis : The thing i'm wondering is why does Jon care so much about Chris's story that he went and followed his footsteps to make a novel and then spend a stupid amount of money just to find out what caused his death.

As I grew up I started thinking of taking a gap year before going to college to go travel but I have heard from many teachers that it's a risky thing to do. According to them a lot of people who take gap year end up not going to college because of the experience they had that keeps pulling them to continue their travel. I, to be honest, know myself well enough to know that this will probably happen to me. So now i'm going to travel but after I go to college and obviously when I have enough money to travel. 
   Now that I've finally have my plan set the question I am actually asking myself is where to go. I've been told that Japan is a great place to go. I ask them what is so great about Japan and the responses were "the parties", "the clubs", and "there's cute women". So now i'm kind of curious and want to go to Japan partially because of some of the responses.(not including the women part because idc about that) The other reason is because of the cars I know are going to be there. I am a car guy and the cars they make in Japan are just beauties. This will most likely be the place I will travel to but who knows it might change.

He accomplished his dream and almost made out of it too. He makes me want to try to reach my goal. Then as you read along you get angry when he makes all those stupid decision like he needs to stop being do stubborn and listen to the warning and the help he gets from people. This guy caused so many people pain with his his death. He changed peoples lives with just his presence or his advice so obviously it was going to affect them when he turns up not showing and then finding out he died. Its even more furious when he almost dies which he could've prevented if he had only kept the supplies some people gave to help him survive just in case there is a crisis.
