#1 we have to stay in school for 6 hours a day and 5 days a week

This looks like kids being forced to sit in school from 7:30 AM to to 2:10 PM, five days a week. The kids don’t have a choice of when they want to leave. This is helpful but it can also cause some problems. One way it is helpful is it keeps the kids contained and make’s sure they are learning and off the streets from any possible harm. But one thing that does not benefit it is if a student does not feel well they should be allowed to leave the building. But we feel they should have to tell a teacher and have them give an OK for them to be able to leave. In The Giver they are not allowed to leave the class or activity that they are doing until they are dismissed by a person with authority.

In most schools the governing board or committee comes up with a curriculum that the teachers are required to teach us. When kids are forced to learn something in a way that is not interesting or not how they like to learn to them they will not focus on the lesson. We feel that the curriculum requirements only help the teachers plan what to teach. The teaches are being paid to teach us so make the lessons more engaging for the students. In The Giver the the people of the community have no choice in what they learn, the elders decide everything that the people learn.

With a dress code students are only allowed to wear specific items based on what the school says. I belive that some schools dress codes are good but some schools take it to far. For example in Keiper School in Sunderland England kids can get in trouble for wearing the wrong shade of grey pants. Wearing a different shade of grey does not harm the teachers or students learning environment at all. This connects to the Giver because in The Giver they have to wear specific cloathing for there ceremonies.

In school most kids feel like they have no control over anything. When kids do not like the format of what they are learning it can cause a lack of interest from the students. It can also be hard for the teacher to get the kids engaged in the lesson. In The Giver the citizans have no control on what the elders tells them to do. That means they the government is like the teacher an date citizens are the students

In school we are not allowed to have a phone in class. This means that the students have to leave there phone in there locker throughout the whole day. I think this control is good and bad. I belive this control is good because then the students are not on there phones while the teacher is trying to teach a lesson. I think it is bad though because if there is a family emergency or the student has to contact there parents they cant because they don’t have there phone in class. This relates to The Giver because they do not have any access to technology in there community.

In middle schools students forced to follow a scheduled that tells them all of the classes they are required to take. The schedule is good to guide students, but it also takes away from there ability to make responsible decisions on there own. If students had the freedom to move around the school or not have to go to every class they would be more excited to learn. This relates to The Giver because in The Giver the people have a daily schedule that they must follow and if they break it they will be punished.

The students forced to stay in the classroom it keeps them contained so the teacher knows where they are. But it also forces students to sit still in classes for at least a hour at a time. I do not like this control. I feel that students should be able to move around more. I belive that students should not be forced to stay seated in a contained space for a while. I belive students should be able to walk around during there classes and not be forced to stay in one spot. This connects to The Giver because they are not allowed to leave the community.

It is very clear that kids must go to school, if they want to go to school or not is debatable. I believe it is important for kids t o have a good education, but I think they should not be pushed to do a full six hours of school if they don’t want to for one reason or another. In The Giver the people in the society are required to learn a certain amount of time and to do other activity's.

This control is that we are required to live with a guardian until the age of 18. This also gives them control of us until then. I belive this is a good control. Without this kids would not have someone to take care of them or help them at home. This also provides a house and food for them because most kids don’t work, and if they do can’t make enough money to support themselves. This is similar to The Giver because they are required to live in a family unit

We all know that in school the kids are controlled by the teachers. Outside of school most kids want some time to relax and have some control over what they do. But usually when kids get home there parents tell them what to do. Even on the weekend parents have control over the kids. I think that this can be good in some ways so the kids don't get hurt. I also feel that some parents take it to the extreme, being over controlling will not help the kid it will only let the child not have good decision skills. In the Giver the people have the elders tell them what to do as far as what there job is.
