The major drawback of opiate use is the potential for drug abuse and addiction. The effects include drowsiness, slurred speech, confusion, memory loss, pupil dilation, dilation of the blood vessels causing increased pressure in the brain, constipation, nausea, vomiting, weight loss,hallucinations, sexual dysfunction, convulsions, and respiratory depression. Effects from using non-sterile needles and adulterants mixed with opiates include skin, lung, and brain abscesses, inflammation of the lining of the heart, infected and collapsed veins, and various STD including hepatitis and HIV.

you get constipation as the Opiates block your digestive system this also ties into weight loss as something in the Opiates makes you lees hungry which leads to constipation.

Social: when using Opiates you can push away family and forget they are there as one of the mental effects are memory loss. When you use or get addicted to Opium you start to suround yourself with other addicts that also abuse opium and or other drugs this pushes you away from the people you love and the care about you because they dont like the people you are surounding yourself with so they push you away until you forget they are there.

Mental/emotional
some of the mental and emotional effects of using Opiates is memory loss and abuse and addiction when you start to abuse Opium the long term effects can be fatal memory loss would be so unfortunate so dont start although some Opiates can be helpful only use it if you get it prescribed it.
