The situation of newly arrived migrants

 

    Addressing the situation of newly arrived migrants in a classroom can  seem a daunting  task. It’s a politically  charged topic, one  that  draws  strong  reactions from  many people. And it’s a discussion  often  fuelled  by  misinformation  and prejudices that can seem difficult to counter. More importantly, in many cases it is a discussion about our neighbours or even our own students, making it even more complex to navigate.

    Consequently, many teachers might think it better to just avoid the topic. This course provides a framework to find out more about  the topic and then  thinking about  how  this  can  be  addressed  in  the  classroom. The  goal  of  the  course  is  to  stimulate  constructive  exchanges  about  this  hugely  important  topic  in classrooms across Europe.This modules´ goal is to provide with  an overview of the  situation  of  newly  arrived  migrants  in Europe, so that teachers feel  more confident  about  the  topic  or  at  least   a  position  to investigate it further. It’s important to be familiarized with local situation and  find local partners who can help bring context and stories of individuals into the discussions with students.

 

 

 

 

 

 

One of the key points you should take from this course and to relay to your students is highlighted by Nora Brezger of the Refugee Council in Berlin, Germany: don't talk about "the refugees" or "the migrants" but understand and respect the diversity of invidual stories that are part of the people who have been recently arriving in Europe.

 

  During a period  of  two years ,that is ,2016 and 2017,in Romania should arrive about  4200  refugees in six centres ,as  follows: Bucuresti ,Giurgiu, Maramures, Galati, Radauti and Timisoara .

  There were considered three locations : former army barracks in Tasnad  ( Satu Mare county ), Campulung Muscel ( Arges county ) and Bumbesti – Jiu ( Gorj county ).

   The  first  refugees that should  have arrived  in  Gorj are 15 people from Syria and Yemen.

   The group is made of men ,women and three children.The age of the people  in the group range between seven months and fifty years, according to The General Office for Immigration. The mayor  of  Bumbesti  – Jiu ( Gorj county ) said  that in  his  town  will  function  a  transitory centre  and  that  the  integration  of  the migrants  will  take  place  somewhere  else. The area of the Gorj County cannot offer integration opportunities .The  Romanian  authorities checked these people from  the  point  of  view of security  and  accepted  to  provide  them  temporary hosting , not in Bumbesti – Jiu ( Gorj county ), but in Galati .The  fifteen  people will  begin  the  procedures   for  obtaining  asylum,  in  order  to  get  a  form  of international protection in Romania. 

     I.O.M. (The International  Organisation  for Migration ) was  founded  in Romania  in 1992  order  to handle the need of the migrants  for information and counseling.

    I.O.M.  Romania  developed  programmes  of  national  and  international cooperation in various domains :

     - the fight against the traffic with human beings ;

     - offering facilities for migrants ;

     - providing  help for refugees ;

     - helping  the  migrants  that  wantto  to  go  back into their home country and providing help for their reintegration in the native country ;

     - helping migrants that are in Romania on a legal basis to integrate ;

     - providing medical services to the migrants .

 

 

 

    I think it is very hard to integrate migrants because they are booked upon very  conspicuously  even if  most of  them  leave  their  country  in order to book a better place to live in .

    Most of the times ,people judge them without knowing the story of their life . In Romania are hardly funds from essentials things, but escially for refugees .
