This is the map that treasure hunters Marty and Rick Lagina have used during their 10 years on the island. Some of the key locations on this map are Nolan's Cross, 10-X, and most importantly, The Money Pit. In 1795, an 18 year old boy named Daniel McGinnis came across a sunken part of the ground and started digging. Only to find out that every 10 feet there would be a floor of oak slabs. This hole ended up being the first known excavation on the island, and thus, the Money Pit was born.

Money Pit Diagram

This diagram shows what was said to be in the original Money Pit. There were oak platforms every 10 feet down, and a stone slab with an engraved message at 90 feet. Once the slab was removed, it activated a booby trap which resulted in the pit getting flooded with ocean water. In 1959, a man named Robert Dunfield decided to take matters into his own hands, and attempted to use brute force and heavy machinery to dig to the bottom of the Money Pit. This was unsuccessful and resulted in the loss of possible clues about what is hidden beneath the island.

There are quite a few theories that have little to no support behind them, which has lead to a lot of skepticism from the people who have been searching for the treasure. For example, Jeff Irving's theory about Christopher Columbus bringing the Ark of the Covenant to the Island. It is one of the most bizarre and far fetched theories surrounding the topic, and it does not have any support. I think this theory falls under the red flag; Proof my Verbosity, tons of facts, but that is all.

This is one of many things found in the 250 years of searching on the island. Other items include 3 links of gold chain, a stone tablet, coconut fibres, and a Gladiator Sword replica from the 1800's.

Roman Gladiators on the Island?

A Roman Gladiator Sword was found in the waters of the island in the 1940's. There has been much speculation about whether this sword is authentic or not. After the current Oak Island Team received the sword from one of the locals, their skepticism led them to get tests run on this sword. This proved that the sword was more modern than an original piece. This was definitely a red herring. There is no way that the Roman Gladiators came to Oak Island.

This is the original footage from when Dan Blankenship dropped a camera to the bottom of 10-X. He claims to have seen a chest, ancient tools, a pillar, tunnels, and a dead body. There are definitely some flaws in what he thinks he saw, because when 10-X was reopened in 2015, divers were sent down and they found none of the things that were supposedly down there. Blankenship was most likely just overly excited and started to see things that weren't actually there.
