Is it unfair to students if there are Biblical allusions in a text used in a test?

It's not unfair if the task does not require students to demonstrate knowledge of Biblical allusions; if a task does, then the results of the test will show knowledge of Biblical references, rather than literary sensitivity, which would in turn affect the validity of the results. The imagery and diction in a text should allow students across a broad range of cultural backgrounds to make meaningful connections.

Literature should be a doorway to other cultures, not a locked door that requires the key of a certain cultural background to unlock. Before tests happen, teachers should allow students of various cultural backgrounds to share their understanding of the allusions they spot with each other, so that students can broaden their understanding of the meaningful connections available to them.

In relation to Vetting Task 4a: Is there a difference between the prompt on "speaker's tone" and the prompt on "choice of words and/or images used in the poem"?

Having separate prompts on both could mislead students into thinking that they have to deal with these two areas of study separately, when in fact we know that tone has to be inferred from the choice of words and images. But it would be a non-issue (or at least less problematic) if the relationship between the two has been addressed in class. In addition, the final prompt in 4a could be improved by rephrasing it to "any other ideas or impressions due to the choice of words and images".

My question: how to differentiate and do skills sprial learning between Lower Sec and Upper sec Poetry? Current practice is qns and demands for lower sec poetry is as demanding as upper sec and hence many lower sec students get turned off by poetry. Assessment and expectations for lower and upper sec poetry needs to be differentiated and made clear

Has CPDD come up with a two year SOW that covers all the KSDs and LOs and all three genres over a 1hr 10 min a week lesson time not including school and holiday breaks and tests and exam breaks? How would an ideal SOW look like for a Lower sec curriculum that covers every single item including assessment given that limited time? Please share a sample using texts and poems that no other school has used. :) thank you

How to differentiate lower sec and upper sec marking given the rubrics are the same?

The problem is and the feedback we always get from others is that the lower sec marking is always very stringent and many students fail Lit because the demands are the same. We are marking and assessing a 13 year old who has taken Lit for the first time the same way we would expect from a 16 year old about to take the O levels. How can the recommended assessment rubrics be refined to take into consideration teachers cannot expect students from Lower Sec to produce the Band 1 demands from the O level rubrics?
