Theme

I think the theme of the book “ The Breadwinner” is sometimes you have to make sacrifices. I think this because she makes many sacrifices for her family. One example of a sacrifice is Parvana turning into a boy so that her family could make money. She also digs up bones for money and she hated it, but she knew it had to be done for her family. She also was willing to leave the moment that she heard her family might be dead.

Parvana made these sacrifices not because she wanted to, but because she knew it had to be done. I think the theme is sometimes you have to make sacrifices because she doesn’t think twice when it comes to what's best for her family. That is why I think the theme is about making sacrifices.

In thinking about Parvana and myself, we are similar and different in many ways.one way we are similar is we both care a lot about our families. An example of this is Parvana being very worried when she heard her family might be hurt or dead. She also turned herself into a boy to make money and provide for her family, because she cares about them a lot. I always help out my family when we need it.

But we are also different because Parvana is really brave and I am not very brave.parvana saw some really bad things when she went to the soccer arena, but she still went out everyday to make money for her family.she also lead Homa through the streets illegally even though she barely knew her. I would be scared to experience and do any of the things Parvana has done. Those are the similarities and differences of me and Parvana

Symbolism

An object that really represents “The Breadwinner” is a heart that has a small crack. I think this represents the book a lot because the heart represents all the people she cares about and loves and the crack in the heart represents the hard time that everyone is going through together. One reason I think this is because she met a bunch of new people she cares about a lot now because of the bad things happening. Another reason I think this is because metaphorically, when Parvana falls down, she always gets back up. One example of this is when her dad got taken away, everyone was super sad and in shock. But Parvana was the first person to get up and do something. That is why I think a cracked heart is a good symbol for “The Breadwinner”

Author's Purpose

I think the author's purpose in “The Breadwinner” is to stir empathy in the reader. They do this by creating emotion in the reader with specific details. One detail that got me emotional was how Parvana was ready to drop everything and go make sure her family is okay when she heard that they might be dead. They also stir empathy by creating awareness about what is going on in the middle east. That is why I think the author's purpose in the breadwinner is to stir emotion.
