🌱 What is a Green Career?

A green career is any job that helps protect or restore the environment, reduce our impact on the planet, or support a more sustainable future.

It exists in any sector, not just jobs traditionally seen as ‘green’. The green thread runs through many sectors including construction, engineering, transport, food, farming, technology, design, finance and many more.

🌱 What are green skills?

Green skills are the knowledge, practical abilities, behaviours and ways of thinking that help people and organisations work more sustainably.

Skills include problem solving, innovation, understanding environmental impact, using resources efficiently, adapting how things are done and developing new solutions for a changing world.

That means green skills are useful in almost any career.  And demand is growing. Green jobs in the UK grew by 27.8% between 2015 and 2024.

The more young people see the green thread running through different careers, the more they can recognise the opportunities open to them.

Green Careers

The certificated course is split into three modules, with bite-sized 30-minute learning units, so schools can use it in careers lessons, curriculum subjects or extra-curricular sessions. Topics include sustainability, sustainable business, circular economy, greenwashing, sustainable careers and green skills.

It supports Gatsby Benchmarks, CDI’s Career Development Framework and PSHE learning opportunities.
