This represents how Ralph now is in need of help after Jack and the chorus leave him again. He turns to Piggy when he has no one else to turn to, he's calling for the help that he thought that he would never need. Piggy from the start has been there to help Ralph, not physically but with his common sense. Page 156, "'Piggy?' 'Uh?' 'What we going to do?'", shows Ralph finally reaching out to Piggy. He's at a loss and knows the only logical boy left on the island is Piggy. After trying so hard to get everyone to listen, Piggy is now finally being heard and respected. Piggy is now the boys' only chance for help, which is why the lyrics "Help. I need somebody. Help, not just anybody," are so relevant because Ralph needs Piggy's help, after he realized that the other boys didn't contain the true help he needed.

This shows that although no one is listening to Piggy, he keeps trying and he doesn't let the boys' jokes and harsh negligence get the best of him. Page 43, '"That's what I said! i said about our meetings and things and then you said shut up-'...'You said you wanted a small fire and you been and built a pile like a hayrick. If I say anything,' cried Piggy, with bitter realism, 'you say shut up; but if Jack or Maurice or Simon-'" This shows how Piggy is being ignored by everyone. He is hurt but he doesn't stop trying. He doesn't let it get to him and he keeps giving his feedback on any situation he can which relates to the lyrics, "You shoot me down, but I won't fall. I am titanium.... I'm talking loud not saying much." Piggy is talking but not being heard by anyone yet.

This represents the little hopes that Piggy had that they will someday be rescued. "Don't stop believing, hold on to this feeling" is a major line in this song and it was evident in a lot of Piggy's thoughts, actions, and dialogue. Piggy had the most hopes of being rescued and he also had the common sense to know that it was possible that they may never be rescued. Throughout the book, Piggy reminded Ralph that they must keep a fire going in case a ship passed by, so that the boys could be noticed. When the boys give up what hope they had, Piggy reminded them of their initial thought on this island, that they were going to be rescued no matter what. His views were never negative and he constantly reminded Ralph of every positive thought that ever passed through his brain. Page 127, "He leapt down from the platform and ran along the beach, paying no heed to the steady fall of his tears; and until he dived into the forest Ralph watched him. Piggy was indignant... 'He'll come back. When the sun goes down he'll come'", reflects Piggy's persistent hope. He always had an optimistic point of view thinking that everything would work out for the best.

This poem represents exactly what is going on in Piggy's mind. Maya Angelou states, "But nobody can make it out here alone." In some way or another, we all depend and rely on each other. Piggy knows that by joining together, they will make it, but by being separated and not having each other to rely to share resources and knowledge with, makes the journey much more lengthened and harder to get through. This is represented on page 14 when he states, '"We got to find the others. We got to do something."' Piggy knows that there are better chances in a larger group so when they find the conch and have the first meeting he knows that there are duties for each segment of boys. On page 18, all the boys are starting to gather. This is the beginning of the end of the boys' aloneness. "Their heads clustered above the trunks in the green shade; heads brown, fair, chestnut, sandy, mouse-colored; heads muttering, whispering, heads full of eyes that watched Ralph and speculated. Something was being done." Although these two small excerpts were separate, they related to the same topic, they reflected on the idea of working together not separately.
