After Germany began its Blitzkrieg, the French Officials stated that the Maginot Line is heavily fortified and heavy in defenses. The speed of the Blitzkrieg however, made it pass the Maginot Line and the French Civilians were in uttered shock. After seeing this, French had declared a surrender to Germany. The French people were angered that their government do anything and this is how the resistance started. Many French civilians decided to create a resistance against Germany and it was successful. How did they get their weapons and helmets? After the Allies stormed Normandy, the Germans left behind many things like mortars, guns, and even helmets. This gave the resistance an armory. They wanted to take what was theirs because it was given to the Nazis like a present that easily. The Nazis were powerful in numbers but what they didn't know was the territory. The French people used this to their advantage by giving intel to the allies on where German supply lines were, outposts, armories, and many more. Some were like blowing up supply lines and bridges. They also helped the Allies with intel like on D-Day and also the Liberation of Paris and many other towns. When the allies would attack a piece of land that they didn't know; the French Resistance would provide them with intel on the land and many vital key points that the germans held.
