A rainforest is a dense jungle. Rainforests cover around 7% of the Earth's surface, but have over 50% of the plant and animal life. Rainforests also have tons of rain, hence the name. The climate for a rainforest is hot and humid. The rainforest includes the most biodiversity out of any biome, and includes many symbiotic relationships.

They do not have roots, and adapt to get water and nutrients.

Another plant in the rainforest, especially in Brazil, is called the Carnuba Palm. This tree is referred as the "tree of life", due to its many uses. The most popular part of this plant is the wax, which is used for a variety of things from car polish to lipstick to polishing surfboards.

One species of animal that is native to the rainforests in Central and South America is the capybara. This species of animal is the world's largest rodent. An adaptation that helps the capybara is that it can be semi-aquatic. These animal can breathe under water for at least 5 minutes, and have webbed feet with claws to swim. Capybaras are herbivores , and eat plants in the water or on land. They have also been known to eat their own poop at times.

Another animal in Central and South America is the Poison Dart frog. These brightly colored amphibians use their color so animals try to eat them. What the predator does not know, is that these frogs are highly poisonous. When eaten, they can kill their predator. There are over 170 species of poison dart frogs.
