The Value of Cooperative Games

By Suzanne Lyons

Cooperative games offer a new way to play. Traditional, competitive games are zero-sum games: One player can win only if another loses. Cooperative games are structured differently. In cooperative games, players don’t compete against each other. Instead they have a common goal so players either win or lose together. The fun comes from the camaraderie and challenge of the game—not from being the only player (or team) left standing when everyone else is eliminated. No one is eliminated in a cooperative game. What is eliminated is the incentive to beat others in order to distinguish one’s self.....

Lees meer op de site

The 10 Best Co-Op Games

Video door game journalistenbedrijf IGN,

With the recent release of the new co-op game Split Fiction, IGN decided to revisit our Top 10 best co-op games. Just a heads up, we have a few caveats as we define what “co-op” means for this list. We wanted to focus on coop games that were truly built around that cooperative experience. This is a list of the top 10 cooperative games, not the 10 best games that happen to be playable cooperatively, which is why you’ll see a lot of games that can only be played with two players. Also, to keep this from stepping on the toes of other genres, we’re omitting MMOs, MOBAs, and any games that are solely focused on competitive cooperative play. We want to highlight the games that bring people together to work towards a common goal that’s not simply “beat the other team.” This is an update to our list from 2021. While games like Monster Hunter: World, Overcooked 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Rockband 4, It Takes Two, and Sea of Thieves (to name a few) managed to keep a spot on the list, it has been updated to include others. If you’re looking for “best coop games pc”, “best couch coop games”, “best coop games ps5”, or any co-op games list, this is the one for you.
